those deaths aren't how many times you've been knifed

its how many times you've died with your knife out.

I've died with my knife out only a few times. I don't pull it out untill I have a target and am within striking distance, consequently, my knife is rarely out.

I know shock paddles work that way, but I should think the deaths are actually deaths by knife.
