Kali for bf2 server browsing

The recent 1.3 patch broke bf2 server browsing in Kali. So I was looking around for alternatives, and I found that none of them provide all the features I have come to demand from using Kali. They all can do some of the stuff, but none can do it all. An example:

My favorite way to browse is to list only ranked,anitcheat,autobalanced, bf2-only, punish mode servers using the latest version of bf2 with greater than 8 players.

I then look at the player count, reserved slots and map size in the customizable columns and find those that aren't full(player count - reserved slot count). Then I will look for servers with low player limits and larger map sizes and join one with a good ping.

gamespy,ase, kquery, qtracker, etc etc all do some of this, but only Kali does it all.

So now my quest is to help the Kali author to fix it for bf2 1.3. I will be grateful for any pointers to that end.

Wow..I haven't heard of this app since I used it to play the original Descent back in the early 90s.

Try Qtracker instead.

I started using Kali with Descent ][. I still can't find anything better.

I don't like qtracker because qtracker doesn't allow customized columns for its server list. So I end up joining servers that are full because I don't see the number of reserved slots in the list.

The filter mechanism is also very clumsy and akward to use and it takes too long to find and ping servers.

The author is adding customized columns very soon.

I find pinging is VERY quick for me..have you tried adjusting the bandwidth settings?

I have it set to 1mbps cable. It's takes a while to ping all 4-5k servers. It's not that it takes that long(a minute maybe). I am used to server refreshes being faster than this. I set up my filter and it only pings the ones I am interested in, not all of them. Thanks for your response.

Have you tried setting up a favourites folder and using that instead?

Just set up a named folder under Battlefield 2 in the left pane and copy and paste a bunch of servers there. When you load up Qtracker and hit 'refresh' with Battlefield 2 highlighted, it only refreshes that folder. Very nice.

It's what I do and it results in only about 50-100 servers being pinged....with all of my "not full and not empty" filters, I end up with about 30...very reasonable.

Every so often I do a full server refresh to see if there are any new servers out there for me.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give 'em a try.

Is there any information about the new 1.3 server query protocol that I can send to kali so it can be updated? I found one thread but any other information would be appreciated.

sucks that does, but maybe EA are doing something about it i dno. EA screwed the game up so bad with 1.3 cos its always crashing
