    high ping - problem

when i play battlefield, i have normally a ping of 60, but every 2 minutes i get a mail, that i have a problem with my connection and then i habe a ping of 700 for 5 seconds and then everything is normal again. but on the server from my clan with abr or without ranking all the members of my clan can play on this server with a ping of 30-50. only i have there a ping from 200-600, so i can only play as commander.
    what can i do ???

    thanx,

Run PingPlotter (www.pingplotter.com) and do a few traces to sites like google and microsoft and then to a few BF2 game servers.

These traces will show you where your ping (i.e. latency) spikes occur.

Why do you get kicked for having a high ping?

Some server admins use an auto-kick feature for high pings, excessive team kills etc. Many beleive that one player with a high ping alters the latency for all players on that server so they kick them.

          Hi,

i have the same problem....i usually have a ping like 20 - 60. i found out that if i'm near to enemies my ping raises to 700 and more. it stays there for a few seconds then it falls down to normal values. but i cant play then because of lagging (comprehensible) so i'm not able to play normally. it make no sense what a server i'm connecting on. always the same problem. i thought it could be a problem with a small MTU-size so i increased it to 1500. but the problem is still there. im getting crazy about this......i tested other games in online mode and i pinged to several servers but no unusual values.....

          can anybody help me??

The net code in BF2 is not the greatest ever built. It can reveal hardware weaknesses that would go unnoticed otherwise. Talus's suggestion of using pingplotter is a good suggestion.

I used pingplotter to prove (to my ISP) that they had a faulty router. I changed ISP's and all was wonderful.

I doubt your hardware or settings are causing erratic latency values but pingplotter (PP) will tell you. Just launch it and enter the url of a game server you are about to join. Tell PP to log that IP and the connection. While playing, have a pen and paper handy so that when the killer lag hits, you can write down the time. Keep your own written log over the next hour.

After playing, compare your log times with the PP log times to see exactly where the packets are being dropped creating the latency.

Yeah, I have used the information gathered by PingPlotter to contact the NOC (Network Operation Center) for the machine that appears to be having trouble..and in some cases, they reply and fix the problem within a reasonable time frame. Sometimes, they aren't even aware of the issue.

It's just nice to prove where the problem is.

Same here. This has happened to me only after 1.3. It never was a problem before.
