    "PPU" (Physics Processing Unit).

Will BF2 games support this new physics processor card in the near future, I hope so!

Without question, one of the hottest topics throughout the industry this year has been the advent of the discrete physics processor or

BF2 looks fantastic but physics wise it way behind. Using this new technology explosions, running water, smoke, wind and even movement of sand which would be scary would look and feel right. I always feel the game is a bit hollow as regard to real world physics, tanks bounce, jeeps are great fun but feel a bit arcade like.

I know adding my sound FX card added a new dimension to the game, 3d sound and explosions that sounded fantastic. When I got the FX card for the sound I could not believe the difference.

So here is hoping developers take this on board as some have already.

I doubt it since it would probably need to have the game engine redone.

I doubt that even BF2142 will support it since it is that same engine.

It doesn't even support dual core processing.

As to BF2142, I won't dismiss it just yet, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, you never know what happens.

These physics cards are not the holy grail for adding over the top physics to multiplayer games, first the massive bandwidth needed to update every client isn’t there, second if it were taken into consideration somehow for multiplayer games it would create an unfair advantage to those without. For games that will take advantage of them it will only do so for client side stuff that has no impact on gameplay, it just may make it look cooler for you, that is if your system is powerful enough to render all the extra polygons needed for the effects in the first place, think of it as an accelerator card that decelerates your graphics card.

If you look at games like crysis, from what I’ve read is that they’ve coded their own physics routines and aren’t using off the shelf solutions like some games do, the results look amazing but I’ll have to see it in action before I believe we’ll get to blow up individual trees in a jungle multiplayer map.

Last but not least with regards to BF2142 consider that it will use a tweaked version of the BF2 engine and that they have already stated that 2142 will NOT support wide screen monitors to the extent of giving the players more peripheral view space.

Sorry should have made myself more clear, I realise that this next BF2 game is just a re-hash of BF2 in the future, (in my own view I liked 1942 better as you got more of a fight none of this chopper base camping) so its not going to take this new stuff in.

But its interesting times, I would say its got to the point that the games like BF2 are what I dreamed about twenty years ago playing zx81’s, and C64’s etc. ok so its long ago but 64 player servers and graphic’s that are taken for granted these days seemed only a dream back then.

Triple core processors, Twin Graphics SLi cards and the prospect of a dedicated chip for physics, I just think WoW mainly as im my day a few dots on a black and white screen were **** hot.

Things are getting scary, just how will we playing in say 5 years time.

DING!!! DING!!! DING!!! Your are correct sir.
The only game I know of that uses the http://www.ageia.com/ physx card is GRAW. Speaking of GRAW, they recently relased a patch, that gmae is a lot more stble than BF2 is.

WTF makes you think they can support the physics card when they can't even support code without it?

I wouldn't want it in a BF game as long as the BF series is owned by EA, BF2 already has enough bugs that still need addressing (and free extra ones in the patches). Giving them more to play with would probably mean more bugs in whatever BF game they came out with that would use it.

look at the physics in HL2 AND COUNTER STRIKE - Who needs a physics card - we just need good programmers
