How do I get to use the L96A1

I unlocked the the L96A1 the other day, and although I've only played Warlord since then, I've not been able to use it.

When I hit the up/down arrow button on the kit section I get the M95 but don't get the option for the L96A1.

Is the L96A1 tied down to only a specific team or map, although I have tried to use it as both SAS and Insurgent.

You can only use it and the other "second-tier" unlocks on vanilla BF2.

Its also an EF unlock, not an SF unlock, so you cant use the L96 at all in SF.

Noob question then, whats vanilla?

Is this just standard BF2 ie it would work on Karkand so it just won't work on SF, or does it mean pre 1.3/1.22?
