Severe FPS Loss - Can't Figure out the Problem

Recently out of the blue I've been experiancing some extremely horrible framerate issues in various games (BF2 being one of them). I never tweaked or fiddled with any graphical settings in the games I play, or with my graphics card settings.

Usually I would get 60+ FPS but all of a sudden I get a maximum of 11 FPS on games that I normally don't have trouble with. I tried updating my graphics drivers with no luck. If anyone can diagnose the problem, or has a fix it'd be much appreciated.

By the way, I have an ATI Radeon x850 pro (256mb card) and 1 gig of RAM which rules out getting a better card, or more RAM.

It's not a hardware issue. EA just doesn't know how to code patches right. Maybe try lowering some settings, defragmenting, clearing video cache, etc...

Re: Severe FPS Loss - Can't Figure out the Problem

I have the same problem, with x850 pro and 1.22 onwards, ive unlocked 16 pipes on the x850 prom, have it overclocked ar 520GPU/595mem( PSU cant handle more yet ) and mem seetings tweaked as per some other post, i think BF2 has become more processor intensive since these patches,.

Try deleting your cache, starting a map on bf2, then defragging the drive, i know i got a serious boost recently doing this

      I only have a 2.4 P4 but before 1.22 it ran like a dream,i have the following:

      Crappy Dell 4600
      Intel 865PE mobo
      X850 pro AGP 8x
      Xfi XtremeMusic
      2 Gig Ram PC 3200U
      160 & 40 Gig ATA drives
      1 DVD Rom & 1 burner
      2Gig download/256Upload DSL connection

Ive actually turned all settings to medium now, works grand on <64 player servers( can even turn all settings to high and its fine ), on a 53 player server get average 38-40FPS, but on 64 player, wow, destroys my system, looking at 15FPS in any intense situtation

Im just gonna upgrade processor, P4 950 or something
hell FEAR runs at ~48FPS on my system with everything on high except soft shadows, and its a system hog( from upgrading experience )

BTW i have my system tuned to the max, all crap removed etc. clean out/defrag/run spyware, remove all junk processes/services still no joy, OC's graphics card as much as is stable, set graphics card to 64 on PCI and sound to 248

My recommendation is to go on any server <64, i cant pinpoint it to CPU, but i reckon its CPU problem now, either that or PSU( not enough power to cool GPU but drawing too much power for new fan i added and CPU compensates by slowing down )
