    Easy fix for "Cartillery"

    Implement no-drop zones...

Red-lined areas of all maps where the CO (Commanding Officer, dude above the BF Commander) will not allow drops.

    Places off-limits:

    1. Within 10 yards of any commander asset.
    2. On any rooftop
    3. On any runway/landing pad (Yes, that wipes out the carrier)

Basically, vehicles can be dropped on roads, alleys and open terrain...

You can still drop a Vodnik for your squad but you cant exploit it like a toolbag.

Just add a random factor to the drop...+/- 5 meters will do. This way you can still drop for friendlies, but it'll be totally useless for pin point accuracy.

In addition you could have it only allow drops where Elevation == 0.

The above would solve about 95% of all issues I think.

Elevation = 0 would make it unusable on most maps. That would eliminate hills and other terrain features.

OP has a solid idea going.

it would be cool if when you killed someone with cartillery the server said like:
            =IMO=THjones killed by cartillery
            instead of is no more
            LoL

When I say 'Elevation == 0' I don't mean actual elevation from water level, but distance from the ground texture. The top of the hill would be 0, but the top of a building would be > 0 because the building sits on top of the ground.

Runways are also flush with the ground, except for the USS Essex. The 'ground' under the Essex is VERY DEEP and thus the 'Elevation >> 0'.

And with the +/- 5 meter variance in a random direction from where the commander clicks (easy to program), the commander couldn't use it for anything requiring pin-point accuracy anymore.

              You see what I mean?

I do see what you mean but assuming anything is easy for EA to program is pushing the envelope a little I think.

Really, either idea would work but a randomized 5 meters would mean that a vehicle dropped in a street could end up on a roof....anyway... My idea is just easier I think...

Well when you request or drop the vehicle, have it in the open. The variance is a little more 'realistic', but the alternative to pin-point accuracy is that.

Maybe just +/- 3 meters. The point is when a commander click on a spot, the actual spot the vehicle will land is upto 3-5 meters away from that spot in a random direction.

BTW, I still kill enemy snipers with supply crates because I can drop them with pin-point accuracy - I can also block ladders. I wouldn't be able to do it if there was a random variance.

The only thing I agree with is #3....the first two are unrealistic but in no way unbalancing....

they arent that unrealistic.... vehicles arent dropped from the sky by God... they are dropped from transport planes or huge helicopters which must line up approach vectors and drop times...a transport pilot could (and would) choose to line up his drop with a road rather than a block of buildings.

                      anyway... something must change.

thats not what I meant, I mean that in real life (hence the REAListic part) commanders wouldn't be dropping jeeps on rooftops or on top of enemy commander assets....but it was still in no way imbalancing in respect to the game...

I about laughed my ass off when a comm dropped a vodnik between my tank and a ton of footsoldiers, allowing them to escape.

Felt like the hand of God threw a TV van in my way.
