    1.3 and Server crashes

Our server has crashed 4 times in a 1hr period. Yay a new record.

We assure our regular players this has nothing to do with our server box, its purely related to patch 1.3 and its buggy code. It was bad before 1.3 crashing on average sometimes 3 times a day but now with 1.3 its a complete joke.

I think EA owes us a months server rental or for as long as until they can fix the server code so it doesn't crash as the server is down more than its up with these crashes.

    Fix it now!

From our server provider at http://www.sfrsquad.net

            From Trinity Games:

BF2 1.3 Major Stability Issues and Other Nasty Bugs

There exists a major stability issue with BF2 1.3, as many of you are
already painfully aware, because you have seen it yourself or you have
            kept
up with our 1.3 patch forum thread here:
            https://secure.trinitygames.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1510

You can read mass worldwide reports of this in any major gaming forum.
There, you'll find reports of widespread crashing and reports of the
numerous other nasty bugs that 1.3 has introduced.

Server crash rates have soared from 1.2 avg. per day to well over 4
            crashes
            per server daily.
100% of BF2 providers worldwide are reporting this problem and others,
            on
            all platforms, all operating systems.
What is amazingly disappointing about this is that 1.3 was supposed to
correct these issues, not make them worse.

Without finger pointing, ranting, and calling into question Dice's
            testing
procedures and EA's decision-making, I will go out on a limb and say
            that
one of the following need to occur in short order:

            1. Rollback to 1.22 OR
            2. 1.31 Hotfix (ASAP)

But, a full day has gone by with absolutely no guidance or direction
            from EA
or Dice. I have to equate their reaction to that of a deer in the
            headlights at this point.

I have asked EA and Dice repeatedly for direction or resolution during
            our
rather lengthy patch process here (all of us are rather short on sleep
            and
patience at this point, as you can imagine), even temporarily halting
            our
main patch operations very early this morning pending the initial
            reports of
            the problems.

At this point we are in a holding pattern awaiting official guidance
            from
EA. As soon as they release news, we'll take quick appropriate action
            to
hopefully return all servers to a more stable operating condition. We
            are
not able to roll servers back to 1.22 until such guidance and patch
            reversal
(roll-back/backout) patch is issued by EA.

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to improve server stability
            at
this time. We'll be happy to refer you to this information and any
additional information since its writing if you open a server trouble
            ticket
            regarding increased crashing.

Rest assured that we stand ready to do whatever is in our power to
            improve
the situation as soon as the opportunity is made available to us.

            Thank you,
            ---

                Re: 1.3 and Server crashes

You know, perhaps we should learn from the MMORPG community. Release the patch early to the public (or dedicated test servers), and listen to what they have to say.

I would dedicate at least 25 EA 'testing' servers (have 'TEST' as the start of the server name), that would be running the new patch.

Release only the client a week early and battlerecord EVERYTHING on these test servers.

If there aren't any major bugs or stability problems, then make the patch offical, otherwise keep at it for another week.

To reward those who join these test servers allow their stats to be reported like on live servers.

You'll be surprised the amount of FREE testing we are willing to do.

So, if I was the Community Manager at EA/DICE, I would immediately keep 1.22 stats working. I would appologize to the community and let them know that they are working as hard as they can on 1.31.

Its really not that bad, just release the patch to the public a week prior to the 'official' release and LISTEN to us. Believe it or not, we care about what's happening to 'our' game.

I guess you guys missed this yesterday
                    Community Update - 5/25/06

                    Attention Soldiers and Server Admins!

After a thorough investigation into the issues plaguing the server browser after the 1.3 Update, we believe that a last minute update in the way the Battlefield servers and Gamespy servers communicate may be the cause.

We have decided to revert this change in an attempt eliminate these browser issues. Please note that no uninstalling or re-installing is required by players or server admins. All servers currently running must be restarted once this change has taken place.

Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any alternate-ranking redirections in your windows "Hosts" file must be removed.

The reversion will occur at 2:00 PST. We are continuing to review other issues players have noted with 1.3. Further updates will be posted to this space as they become available."

                    Thank you,
/The team at Dice and EA
