How do I pause (freeze) a video in the timeline?

Let said the video is 20 seconds long and I want the 15 sec (of the 20 sec) part to be last about 5 sec. So the overall video is 25 sec rather than 20 sec.

How am I going to do that, tried the trimmer and it didnt works :hmm:

One method is to use a velocity envelope. Right click the event and go to Insert envelope... > Velocity (or similar). You will now have a line through the event. By default, the line, which is a representation of the video speed, is at 100% from begining to end. Right click the line at the point you want to stop, and click Add point. Add another point next to it, so you have two points. Take the point on the right and drag it undernieth the first. As you change it's vertical placement, you will see that you change the speed in %. Set it to 0%. To get it right on, right click that point and choose Set to..., and type 0. 5 seconds later, do the same, bringing it back to 100%. I'm sure you will grasp this as you go.

Damn, that seems more complex than it is.... Anyone have a simpler method?

Keep in mind, as you change the video velocity, the audio does not follow suit. You may need to split your audio, leaving a gap for the "frozen" part. Hotkey is S for splitting.

Two good ways:

1) Take a snapshot on the preview windows highest settings which will require some clipping to remove the borders than drag it back into the project (more time required)

2) Create a velocity envelope - (read above post)
Beware of creating a gradient when there is low fps in the footage as this will affect the framerate smoothness very badly if done incorrectly. (It's not very compatible with fraps footage because the frame rate isn't constant, and will look bad) However, this method is easier to implement then the earlier.

Experience makes things easier to do than explain.

Ah, yes. I forgot the Movie Maker method. I did a one-angle bullet time effect using that method.
