  • How much lead for cannons in a dogfight?

Just curious. I find it hard to take down an enemy with cannons. Let's say that a J10 is comming into the Essex for a rape run at 50 or 75 feet. I see them and come down from behind them at a 45 degree angle from say 200 feet, where do you aim? At the cockpit or maybe a jet length in front of the target?

If your right behind a jet and they go into a left or right turn, how much in front of the jet do you need to point your nose to hit them?

    Experienced pilots only please.

    Thanks in advance.

if your following their path, shoot the engine. as for shooting them while turning or at other angles, generally your going to need to shoot ahead of their planes nose. practice on nubs untill you work out the lead for the situation your in as its different depending on distance from them e.t.c as such there is no definative lead amount.

if your hitting you will see smoke and it will gradually get darker as you hit more.

depends on their speed, your speed, their vector, your vector, etc etc.

You can see the stream of bullets out in front of you, use that as a visual reference to adjust your aim.
