Are the missiles the pilot gets aimed with that circle thing on the screen or the 2 lines on the screen indicating a cross-hair? I have never been sure.

Re: heli pilot missiles
There are a helicopter guide video over on bf2s that shows exactly what the gunner sees. Those photos came from this forum but I can't help you with any search terms.
Look at the crosshair then look below the crosshair and you should see a elongated rectangle with a dot in the middle. That dot indicates where the gunner is looking when using the cannon. The middle of the gunners view is basically in between the crosshair and the rectangle.
Hopefully someone can supply you with links or search terms so you can see for yourself.
In the future you might want to word your postings carefully as your current post is pretty hard to understand.
EDIT: "The circle thing" is probably the hover indicator. It is useless and should be ignored.
EDIT 2: I found the helo guide that shows exactly what the gunner sees. http://totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69357

Re: heli pilot missiles
Edit: nvm, the bf2s files are down for maintenence so i can't watch the vids.
I also have a question:

You see that rectangular box with the chinese writing underneath it with the solid square in the middle? (Towards the bottom of the hud)
Is that basically the gunners TV view, so when you are lining someone up for a TV shot, make sure the target is in that box? (I'm thinking it is becuase in the USMC chopper it says "gunner view" underneath that box, but i'm not sure wether it's real or just for show)

The gunner view shows where the gunner is looking when using the autocannon. The missile view is a few centimetres belo the crosshair.Originally posted by StizzleEdit: nvm, the bf2s files are down for maintenence so i can't watch the vids.

Re: heli pilot missiles
It's not the gunner's TV view as you describe, no. It shows where the gunner is looking. If the box if off to the right of that rectangle, you gunner is looking to the right of you - if he's shooting as he does it, you could help him out by turning the chopper to the right so the targets are right in front of him.Originally posted by StizzleYou see that rectangular box with the chinese writing underneath it with the solid square in the middle? I've seen screenshots taken simultaneously by the gunner (in TV missile mode) and the pilot, showing where the gunner's TV missile camera looks from the pilot's perspective. Basically, it's above the "gunner view" box you mention, but a bit below the pilot's crosshairs. Note that the exact placement of the TV camera is slightly different on different helicopters, but they're all roughly in that area. I don't remember wher I saw those screenshots though, so no link. Sorry.
The pilot's Hellfire missiles fly (unguided) to the crosshairs on the HUD. THe circle you refer to sounds like the one that appears when you hover the chopper, as Kattspya says. Initially, the circle is perfectly on the crosshair, but as you try to hover the circle wavers as the chopper moves slightly. Basically it's used so that the pilot has a reference point - keep that circle on the crosshairs, and your hover will be perfectly in position, not moving at all. Sometimes when hovering it can be hard to detect slight movement when you're not totally stationary in the air. The circle is there to help you get that perfect hover. Nothing more.

Re: heli pilot missiles
Your hellfires will only hit where the crosshair points at if you are in a perfect hover. If you are moving down you would have to recorrect with moving your nose up a little, and vice versa.

Re: heli pilot missiles
Yeah - the Hellfires go to where the crosshairs were when you fired them, they don't home to wherever the crosshairs are now (like the SRAW, Eryx, TOW etc do)... They're "dumb", unguided rockets: you have to correct for the chopper moving, or your target moving. Sorry, thought that was obvious - perhaps I should have been more clear.

Re: heli pilot missiles
You can compensate your missiles, by shooting before your crosshair is on the target, and dont lower your nose to much, or you can go down and crush in to the ground. "Perfect hover" - is a bad idea most of the time, cause then you are perfect target for tanks cannon, best thing is hit him, then turn around and get some better position...

Re: heli pilot missiles
So basically 'that circle thing' is a reference point for how much you have to compensate for changes in speed and altitude.
I can fly choppers pretty damn good, I just was never sure what the icons on the screen were actually meaning.
Ok thanks.
