    Community Update 5/25/2006

    Attention Soldiers and Server Admins!

After a thorough investigation into the issues plaguing the server browser after the 1.3 Update, we believe that a last minute update in the way the Battlefield servers and Gamespy servers communicate may be the cause.

We have decided to revert this change in an attempt eliminate these browser issues. Please note that no uninstalling or re-installing is required by players or server admins. All servers currently running must be restarted once this change has taken place.

Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any alternate-ranking redirections in your windows "Hosts" file must be removed.

The reversion will occur at 2:00 PST. We are continuing to review other issues players have noted with 1.3. Further updates will be posted to this space as they become available."

    Thank you,
/The team at Dice and EA

1.31 here we come. I'm not surprised, you have to expect not everything will go as planned.

Nice, this gives them time to work with the other bugs.

Okay, I'll bite. What's the Windows "Host" file?

This tells me they are aware of some bugs in 1.3 and that they're coming up with a fix.

It's a file that lets you redirect certain IP addresses or keywords to other IP addresses or keywords. The most common redirection is "localhost" being redirected to "127.0.0.1", the loopback address.

I personally redirect keywords of my favorite servers to their IP address, so I can use connect to IP and connect to "tactical" and have it automatically connect to TacticalGamer.

If you don't use an alternate ranking system, don't worry about it.

Excellent, something positive, im optimistic again :)
                    Hosts files - C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\
make sure youre not overriding the gamespy ones or theyre not overridden by mods or anything, i think this was their fix for the alternate ranking system and they didnt want to tell anyone as its simple to get around it

hmm I wonder since we dont have to uninstall 1.3 does that mean those why havent updated still have to update?

I'd be surprised if the problem of BF2 V1.3 gameservers crashing constantly can be solved by patching the gamespy servers only...

The issue is server-side. They're not doing it now so that all server owners have time to prepare to restart. Notice how they mention all owners of servers will need to restart their servers.

As to your question, it seems obvious. If you want to play 1.3, you need to install 1.3, =P

Ok, so I have a line in my hosts file that reads as follows:

                              ###.###.###.### BF2
                              # modified by BF2_Connector 1.0+

                              (### is an actual IP)

Edit: Nevermind. This is for ASE.
