HELP! BF2 crashes before the login screen

Just installed the 1.3 patch (incremental) and the game CTD before it gets to the login screen.

I had made the following modifications to my files:-

• changed the bf2 filename to bf21
• disbled the intro movie (by renaming the extension)

The above were recommendations made off forums...

rename the .exe back to BF2.exe and install the full patch
if you had bothered to search at all you would know this by now
