Does BF2 1.3 now need a heavy lift chopper (e.g. Chinook or Seaknight)

I mentioned this idea in another thread, but thought it relivant enough to be a thread in it's own right. So sorry to repeat myself guys!

1.3 makes it harder to take known defensive maps - like the island maps for example. Now that we can't spawn hop on SLs who sneak ashore, we rely on the 'good old way' of a concerted amphibious/are cav assault to gain a foothold...

The problem with that is that the Blackhawk, or Zodiac can only realy get a squad ashore at most - assuming that they can get past the defenders ghauntlet of AA MGs, missles and fighters that is!

Worse, even if you get your squad ashore one well timed arty strike or bombing run can take out your whole squad!

    SO -

Why not introduce the heavy lift chopper to give the attackers a fair chance?

In reality the USMC does have the option of deploying the Boeing CH-46 Sea Knight.

This wouldn't unballance the game, as defenders would still stand the same chance of shooting it down (with the increased oportunity of getting even MORE points!) - BUT, it would mean that attackers would have the ability to get TWO SQUADS on the ground at once, instead of just one...

(And more importantly, that means TWO Squad Leaders instead of just one.)

-- The real SeaKnight can carry 17 troops btw! But I think 2 squads is fair - with a 7.62 mini-gun door-mounted on either side like the Blackhawk. --

[Those of you like myself that used to play Novalogic's 'Joint Operations' will remember the CH-47 Chinook from that game. It had teh ability to transport two loaded jeeps inside it!]

You'd need to make the thing nearly bloody invincible tho, if it was twice as big as a BH itd stand out like dogs balls, and itd be slower too i assume. armour on it would have to be enormous..

good idea though on maps like wake and omen if a guy who knows how to use the j10 gets it the round is pretty much over

        You are absolutely right guys...

A SeaKnight would be a peach of a target for the defence fighters...

BUT - I am presuming ( - and I must be mad - ) that YOUR fighter and assault helicopter pilots are doing what they are supposed to do - providing air escort/cover for your transport helicopters!

(Instead of buggering off to rack up points for themselves!)

LOL - ever the optomist am I!

        :)

strewth, you're not wrong. but even if they were, im sure many a pilot would gladly trade 1 death for 12 kills... theres every basic kit award right there!

LOL - yup - I mean they are doing it now for one or two kills....

            BUT GUYS...

Remember that this does not stop us using helicopters now, and I think the advantages of getting through with a Chinook would out-weigh the statistical chances of you getting rammed!

            :)

But, that's what we love about this game eh? The trill of not knowing if we can get that helicopter to it's destination!

            LMAO!

Yes, you are indeed mad. I very rarely see the US air (F35 and AH-1) bothering to take out the tanks/jeeps that sit waiting for Blackhawks and boats to come up towards their defensive position on the ends of the main island on Wake. If they did, getting ashore wouldn't be so difficult. You would think that a quick bombing run by a jet on the south "leg" of the island, and the AH-1 TVing the north "leg" would clear the beaches for the US to get ashore... But no. To be fair to the US though, it's often the J10 and Z10 that stops that plan working properly.

And "The trill of not knowing if we can get that helicopter to it's destination!"...? Oh yeah, I just love spending the round wondering if I'm ever going to make it to land to actually have a proper fight... Lol

                It sounds funny...

But back in the days when BF2 was pre-release, my buddies and I had vissions of 'Apocolypse Now' style helo assaults ~ masse co-ordinated air cav sorties, with all the air elements coming in together towards a landing zone...

What ever happened to that dream!

I have NEVER seen a large scale co-ordinated air assault yet! (Have you?)

Basically, with all the air elements co-ordinated you should - technically - simply over-whelm teh shore defences.

You are absolutely right in what you say, Gav, if the jets and helicopter stick with the initial assault to clear the way, there is absolutely no reason why the USMC shouldn't get ashore relatively easily.
