Hi. I've been playing BF2 nightly since the days of v1.0, and I've been lurking in this forum for a long time now, but never registered because I didn't really have anything to say. That all changed with 1.3.
I've had my share of CTDs and dropped connections in the past with different versions, but 1.3 is entirely unplayable. The login time was VERY long initially, but got shorter after a few tries. That's the only problem that's fixed itself. The server menu is FUBAR. You click on one server and the list reorders itself, time and time again. Also, the server menu doesn't provide accurate information about the game (it shows zero players, or all players have zero score, etc.). If you can search within the server list so that only a couple of servers show up, you can then manage to click on one of them without it jumping down the list. However, it's ping goes from 63 (for example) to 18354329, which is one hell of a ping. I can 'join' the game, but after the level loads and I click 'join', it crashes the game to the desktop EVERY TIME.
I originally installed the 1.3 partial update over 1.22, and then went back later on the advice of this forum and installed the 1.3 full patch. Neither helped.
Is there an easy way to uninstall 1.3 and go back to 1.22?
I don't know if BF2SF works.
I realize none of this is new news, but maybe if enough people complain EA will fix it promptly. BTW, is there a better place for me to post this? ...like EA.com?
EA: while you're at it, could you build in support for dual-core AMD chips? I have a high-end Opteron system with 2Gb ram, a 7800GT, etc. If I load the game off of a fresh reboot, it seems to do OK for a while. But, if the PC's been on for days, then the startup spash screens run like they're on a 486 (i.e., slowly). I have to switch back to task manager to disable CPU 1's affinity for the game to run properly.
Speaking of splash screens, everyone who owns this game knows who wrote it. Please make so that we can bypass these screens by hitting ESCAPE. It only adds to the load times, which add up considering all of the times I have to restart the game after it CTD, thank you very much.
