    Bummer for Quakers

Hey you guys...I just read this article on splash damage's homesite (Developr of Quake Wars) check it out and see the bad news:

Apparently Quake will have limited players...using the ultra-demanding Doom 3 engine? Not a good idea...yikes..hope they will change their mind before they realize that only a fraction of us gamers have equipment to handle this game.

Erm Doom 3.. Demanding? My laptop can play doom 3 better than it can play BF2, it can play Doom 3 with better qraphics than it can BF2, it can play Doom 3 with a higher FPS than it can BF2.

I think your thinking of the wrong game.

As for limiting players BF2 limits players to 64 just as I belive the limit on ET:QW will be 64.

Offical maps will have around 32< players as it ads to the game play and doeasnt become a TDM but there isnt a hardcoded limit.

      And also, which artical?

I dont see anything there about limiting players?

edit: ah you mean that few people will be able to play it. refer to my previous post. Doom 3 isnt that demanding, if you can play BF2 you can play Doom 3.

Well, look at it this way: BF 2 is a processing whore, Doom requires a powerful graphics card. As I mentioned before, you might have a killer graphics card, but most BF2 players make due with low settings and even have trouble with that...building Quake Wars on a Doom 3 engine is not the way to go. Hell, CGW even uses Doom 3's FPS rates to test the latest rigs..jesus.

              Re: Bummer for Quakers

We've posted several previews explaining the QW engine. This engine is a highly modified doom 3 engine. The pre-alpha we saw a few months back, not the one at e3 mind you, was running on two gigs of ram, P4 (I think) and a 6800 GT. It was maxed out and was getting 30-40 fps. Sorry guys but if you cant beat that, you need to get a better rig.

Also, the amount of players is not a concern of mine. I was able to play the demo at e3 with a few guys and I can honestly say that the way the game is setup, you wont notice the cut back in amount of players in one server.

Also, if somehow you're reading and you dont have a internet connection, dont bother with Quake wars. It will be a multiplayer game only. :)

                Umm...

There's no info there... or in this thread.
The fact that QW would be based on the Doom3 engine is really OFN.

I personally don't expect good things. Doom3's engine had/has some very nasty limitations on it, especially in terms of rendering large areas. It's the reason that there were no large areas in Doom3 and why everything was so constantly dark.

Quake4 was an utter flop too. Bad engine, bad netcode, bad support, horrible community interaction. I lost faith in Id a loooooong time ago.

                  Re: Bummer for Quakers

Jesus i can kiss my playing Quake Goodbye, the videos that I saw are the settings that I want to play on on any game, but god, those are high requirements. I've got roughly 1 gig of ram and a Radeon 9800 and a Athalon 3200+, I can overclock the graphics card...but will it run on my PC?

Guys its called next gen, get used to it. QW looks good but its not even true "Next gen." I feel another "DUDE MY Geforce 4 wont work with bf2 on high!" parade coming on....

As for Q4 being a flop....who the hell told you that? Bad netcode? What are you smoking man... The only thing gamers like you didnt like about Q4 was the system requirements, but then again...move on, get a better pc.

Its the price we pay for being PC gamers. You have to uprade that thing once a year or so like it or not.

Its still demanding. Not so much demanding to be able to play, but to play with settings any higher than the lowest possible pretty much.

In that case it prbably depends, I run BF2 better than Doom 3.
