Ok, so I have read a lot of comments on this forum, and on many others BF2 forums, about VCD long time use... I had this problem my self, so I did some research, and come with a lot of info. which I want to share, with those things I managed to reduce my VCD time from 1min 30 sec. to just 10 sec. This is how I done it:
Number 1: Run CHKDSK /P /R, from recovery console, jus boot from windows XP install. cd and proceed to the the repair console by pressing R, log on to your windows installation and type CHKDSK /P /R.
Important: Do not skip this step, its very important, you would be surprised how many errors your HDD collects over time.
Number 2: Defragment your HDD, I know you heart it all before, but really do it again, not with standart XP defragmentator but with the O&O Defrag V8 Professional Edition... Its best defragmentation software out there, it will not just defragment your volume but also rebuild your file system for fast access, use COMPLETE/access defragmentation metod for this, its will be best for BF2.
Number 3: Do complete registry clean and compact, fast access to your registry is very important for performance, on your computer. The tools for the job will be System Mechanic and Registry Mechanic, those are quite good programs, do not forget to optimize your start up, and delete junk files, as well clean up some Internet temp. files.
Number 4: Do some windows tweak, go to this web site follow the instructions, download this handy tool. Next thing to do is to download fresh drivers for your video cart, I think you can handle this. Do some Spyware Check, with this thing Spyware Doctor. Most imortant is to check your HDD transfer mode, go to control panel >> system >> device manager >> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers >> Left click on the Primary IDE channel/ Primary ULTRA ATA channel >> Properties >> Advanced Settings >> Current Tansfer mode should be on UDMA Mode 5 or higher, not on the PIO mode, If you have Intel Chipset installed on your motherboard, download Intel application accelerator. If you have firewall installed on your computer do not forget to port forwading BF2, go to this web site, and find out how. Go to this web site if you have router, and do some port trigering. Update you virus definition and do some viruse scan.

Number 5: Clean up your disk, this thing over here Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum Suite 2 makes your live easier.
Number 6: Tweak Battlefield 2 settings, follow this web site, update your punk buster, with PB_setup, in game type following thing in console Pb_sleep 500, this will increase scan intervals, given you performance gain. Rename BF2.exe to other name, ex. BF24.exe, don't forget to change your shortcuts, I don' know why its works. Download Priority Settings Guardian and change you priority settings for BF2 on high, Don't do that if you have a lot of important background aplications like VOIP. Turn off unnecessary programs and services before gaming. Enjoy!
P.S: If you have any questions or suggestions, post it into this thread, I will try to have it sticky on support forum, thank you.
