Verifying Client Data, from 1min 30sec, to 10sec. in 6 easy steps.

Ok, so I have read a lot of comments on this forum, and on many others BF2 forums, about VCD long time use... I had this problem my self, so I did some research, and come with a lot of info. which I want to share, with those things I managed to reduce my VCD time from 1min 30 sec. to just 10 sec. This is how I done it:

Number 1: Run CHKDSK /P /R, from recovery console, jus boot from windows XP install. cd and proceed to the the repair console by pressing R, log on to your windows installation and type CHKDSK /P /R.
Important: Do not skip this step, its very important, you would be surprised how many errors your HDD collects over time.

Number 2: Defragment your HDD, I know you heart it all before, but really do it again, not with standart XP defragmentator but with the O&O Defrag V8 Professional Edition... Its best defragmentation software out there, it will not just defragment your volume but also rebuild your file system for fast access, use COMPLETE/access defragmentation metod for this, its will be best for BF2.

Number 3: Do complete registry clean and compact, fast access to your registry is very important for performance, on your computer. The tools for the job will be System Mechanic and Registry Mechanic, those are quite good programs, do not forget to optimize your start up, and delete junk files, as well clean up some Internet temp. files.

Number 4: Do some windows tweak, go to this web site follow the instructions, download this handy tool. Next thing to do is to download fresh drivers for your video cart, I think you can handle this. Do some Spyware Check, with this thing Spyware Doctor. Most imortant is to check your HDD transfer mode, go to control panel >> system >> device manager >> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers >> Left click on the Primary IDE channel/ Primary ULTRA ATA channel >> Properties >> Advanced Settings >> Current Tansfer mode should be on UDMA Mode 5 or higher, not on the PIO mode, If you have Intel Chipset installed on your motherboard, download Intel application accelerator. If you have firewall installed on your computer do not forget to port forwading BF2, go to this web site, and find out how. Go to this web site if you have router, and do some port trigering. Update you virus definition and do some viruse scan.

    Downloads:

Number 5: Clean up your disk, this thing over here Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum Suite 2 makes your live easier.

Number 6: Tweak Battlefield 2 settings, follow this web site, update your punk buster, with PB_setup, in game type following thing in console Pb_sleep 500, this will increase scan intervals, given you performance gain. Rename BF2.exe to other name, ex. BF24.exe, don't forget to change your shortcuts, I don' know why its works. Download Priority Settings Guardian and change you priority settings for BF2 on high, Don't do that if you have a lot of important background aplications like VOIP. Turn off unnecessary programs and services before gaming. Enjoy!

P.S: If you have any questions or suggestions, post it into this thread, I will try to have it sticky on support forum, thank you.

By the way I have 512 Mb of RAM

or just join servers that dont have the little monitor next to them and then it only take about 5 seconds anyway

              I went through your links..some contained cracks and/or ******s.

Please use direct links to the software developer's site.

If people want to find alternative torrent download links, that is up to them.

I just drastically altered my loading times with some much needed HD upgrades.

For those going from 1 to 2gb of ram, you'll load a slight bit faster, but the big difference here is in overall performance.

I still was taking a while, so I replaced my older HD with a 200gb 16mb cache 7200rpm drive, and now I'm the 2nd-3rd guy in on my side - and this is with a machine only running @ 2.2ghtz. For anyone replacing or reformatting a hd, I'd suggest what I did - 3 partitions - 1 windows/apps, 2nd - swapfile only, 3rd - everything else. Seemed to help quite a lot...

The_Misfit, yeah, but this thing you can do without bying any new hardware, which is actual for me, I got 5 years old PC, if I'am gonna do upgrade, I gonna have to by new motherboard, and it quite a lot of pain, cause then I'd have to reinstall my windows and BF2.

I agree tho, main things to worry about is HDD speed, and your RAM.

Reformat - Install your programs/drivers - Defrag/Tweak etc - then make a ghost image of your harddrive on a DVD Disc(Max nine gigs). Takes less than 10 minutes to reformat from Ghost Disc, and you don't need all those defrag programs. The XP Hive is very unstable, and even defragging regularily doesn't allways help. This is what I do and I'm usually 1-3 to get in on most servers in my Region.

Why do all that when you can just play on Linux / Linux 64 servers, no verifying client data at all!

My VCD is only about 10-15 seconds and I haven't even done any of these things.

pinoy, left clik on it and check properties, you see a diagram right away.

ThoughtForm, I still get VCD on linux servers maybe a little bit shorter, but right now, it allmoust dosen't take me time to join server.

<}US{>BlackHawkPilot73, ok have you done all the steps that I pointed? Cause default windows defragmentor won't do a trick, you need to rebuild your file system for better access, besides don't forget to check you driver transfer mode, this is the most common reason why people get VCD, they run they HDD in PIO... As I sad before CHKDSK /P /R, is important to run before defrag, it will eliminate broken files and bad shortcuts, given a defragmentor better environment to work in. Don't forget tweaks, chears.
