IS BF2 supposed to be this laggy?

The most FPS I can get on a 32 player server is 30-40 with all settings on low and visibility at 50. I just bought a Radeon X800 GTO and that's what it's producing. Back when BF2 supported old Geforce cards, I used to get more FPS with a ti4600. So far I've only tested the card with BF2:SF.

Here's my pc specs:
P4 2.66 ghz
1 gig ram
Radeon x800 GTO 256 MB AGP
Cable Internet

Shouldn't I be getting better results? What can I do to tweak the card and make it run the way it should? I only bought it because all the people who reviewed it on newegg said they were running BF2 with high settings, if I tried that there's no way I could get more than 5 fps.

Try vanilla. SF is MUCH worse performance-wise.

i think that beacouse you have an agp card that wont help try clocking it up a bit

I think its your RAM mostly. Yes SF is a lot more laggy than vanilla so it wont be as bad but you might get jerkyness once in a while but 2gb should smooth it over if you get sick of it.

i would def recommend 2 gigs of ram this game is a ram whore and the more the better it was like the difference of nigght and day when i went form 1 to 2 gigs

Hmm I guess I could upgrade my ram. Is it possible to run 3 512 sticks and would that make much of a difference?

Also, what do you mean by vanilla?

Add a gig of ram and a sound card and I guarantee you will easily see 60-80fps. I see typically 80-100 :) .

You could try and overclock your processor If your feeling lucky. It probably won't be that much of an improvement since BF2 doesnt seem to be that CPU dependent. But hey... every little bit counts.

What about 1536 mb of ram? 3 512 sticks, is that possible?

^i'm running 3x512 here. "no problems" as far as the term can be used w/ bf2

3 sticks just doesnt work well as it reads 1-3-4-2 like a car when u have 4 so 3 will work but why not get 1 more stick?
