If it doesnt work, and you have a firewall running, that might be the problem. I had the same issue, terrible lag all of a sudden...especially after the 1.3 install. Just try deleting BF2 from your allowed programs list...it'll prompt you again to allow or not next time, select allow, and be on your way.

Ok Ive tried the RegCleaner thingy and it's not made much difference either unfortunatley. I've also tried leaving my Firewall open and that doesnt work. The firewall isn't installed on my games PC either, it's on my LAN Internet gateway P.C.

It's not really a ping issue it's a rendering graphics issue.

Maybe I'm just being too fussy? My frames per second stay above 30 most of the time. It's only when there is a lot of action going on in line of sight that my frames can drop BELOW 30. But it just really bugs me because I prefer games to remain ABOVE 30fps at ALL times. There are occasions when it can spoil my aim in close combat.

This has only been going on for me since patch 1.21. And patch 1.3 hasn't made it any better or worse.

i have almost the same,1.2mb/s cable.. gigbyt6800 (256), 3.0 p4, 1gb of OCZ ram, an gigbyte performance extreme mainboard, and it run like crap . only online i got the graphics at 800x600 and low but at least i wont get kicked for my ping.sometimes 500.

its not my pb. shut down all non-essential programs. DO NOT TURN OFF WINDOWS FIREWALL. get onto a sever. start playing press ` then type pb_sleep500 ,press enter then type pb_writecfg, rename ur bf2.exe to bf21after changing ur graphics setting. i tried this. i dont know wat it was but i am having no troubles, apart from 1or2 "There is something wrong with your connection" and 1ce 4 high average ping 330.

Guys nothing works. Just deal with the lost fps and go play Enemy Territory or Tremulous. Both are free for both windows and linux, both have great gfx, and NO LAG!

There is more to the problem somewhere...some of us with MUCH lesser systems experience VERY LITTLE LAG (if any) and have great performance. My system is as follows:

AMD Sepmron 64 3100+
Biostar K8 N4? PCI-E
1gb ram, mismatched with 512 ddr333 and 512 ddr400 :p
Gigabyte 6800GS
HS Cable Internet through Netgear wired router

I am usually one of the first players in game, and play BF2:SF without lag issues. The only lag is when i first enter a game, it is jumpy for the first 30 secodns or so, then all is good!

You need good connection 16+ would best !!

The server that u enter and its location is important too!

I'm getting the same problems as people are saying here, but I get worse. Here are my specs:
AMD Athlon 2400+ running at 2.0ghz
1.75gb ram pc3200
150gb hard drive
40gb hard drive
ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256mb 256bit

I get fps' of under 20, I've tryed MANY things, in fact everything, even re-formatted a few times but nothing. And I definately have all the right drivers. I used to get better performance with my old 9600, but it might just be this new patch, then again I tryed 1.22 and that was no better! I think I need a new motherboard and processor, but I can't afford £150 right now!!

soltek mother board (forgot witch one)
1 gig of ram

Never ever had lag with everything on high!! Now since 1.3 not only lag (GFX ping is fine) but ctd on join server and server disconnects.

Hi everyone,

I am a french player and I have the same issue. Here is my config :
ATI Radeon 9800 PRO
AMD 64 3200+ (2.21 Ghz)
1 Go RAM

I first applied the incremental 1.22 -> 1.3 patch and it was unplayable. Each time I come across other vehicles or players, it becomes extremely laggy and difficult to play, impossible to aim or fire. The whole is much more laggy and really not fluid. Up until 1.22 it worked fine in 1024x768 and medium details.
Now, even in 1024x768 and low details for every option, it is really difficult (even impossible sometimes) to play, althoug I have the same ping than before (20-40).
It also happens in single player (less laggy but still) when there are enemies, vehicles and troops in front of me.

I tried to apply the full 1.3 patch but it didn't change anything. Maybe I'll try to completely uninstall BF2, but how can I be sure that I'll be able to recover my profile, stats and armored fury / Special forces add-on ?

I also downloaded and installed the last ATI catalyst and driver, but it didn't helped...

I’ve narrowed it down to the players/character models. I can walk around in an empty map and get 70 to 90fps. As soon as the player models start appearing the frame rates begin to drop. The more models there are in view the lower the frame rate/greater the lag. A full 64 player server is a nightmare! I get as low as 18fps regularly.

Tried different drivers/OS´(XP/2K) with no difference

how much free % of space do you have on the drives with the game and your paging file?
And how often do you guys defrag?

i dont know crap-all about the page file but ive only defraged once after i installed the game. when u go to defrag check the details, u need to defrag if u got any bf2 files fragmented.
