    Advice on learning to fly....

Well, I am not so much asking for tips on flying....but....I dont want to practice on servers with players in it becuase then I will take the vehicles away from those who can use it to help our team.

But what is the best way for me to learn the chopper / jet flying? Should I start my own server and just mess around? If so, what map etc....

    thanks!

Yes start a Wake or Oman server and practice (they have less mountains and trees to run into). Map a joystick button to your rear view (if you don't have a joystick go back to ground pounding)

It's true, folk with joysticks will pwn you. You can get a cheap one at Wal-Mart for $20. Don't waste your time learing keyboard/mouse, it doesn't carry over.

EDIT: This applies to the jets not the helos.

I use mouse\keyboard and I take down guys with joysticks, its mostly about timing and sharp turns, change your sensitivity if you are planing to use a mouse, I have a brand new joystick, tried it once and it seemed imposible to fly a plane so I went back to mouse

Look mate, like what has been said use your own server and practise the basics. dont worry so much about the joystick thing, practise makes perfect.

Once you've got that well under way, try SP Daquing Oilfields or Dragon Valley, they have choppers and you're able to practise against "live" targets.

After that, might i suggest nearly empty servers with which to hone your skills against other people.

And finally, move on to the Mine? Mine! wars in full pubs.

Joystick is merely an aid instrument, not a +10 Ace points or something similar. The real factor will depend on the player, not aircraft or method of control. Although it sounds pompous, I am a good pilot in BF2 and I use keyboard + mouse.

I respect your opinion but I'm talking as a person that went from a keyboard/Trackball combo (which I found better than a keyboard/mouse for jets) and I will never go back.

Visit SECRETS OF BATTLEFIELD and look at their jets/helo guides. I especially like the latter... not that it would have anything to do with the fact that I co-wrote it. LOL

                          Two words: Euro Forces.

Tabara Quarry is loaded with AA vehicles and stingers so those planes will be back in the hangar in no time, but not so overwhelmingly so that you'll be shot down as soon as you get near the river.

Smoke Screen is in a similar situation, there are just plenty of jets to go around.

Both are also flooded with tanks, so if you want bombing target practice, they're quite good for that too.
