Friend just bought and installed bf2, but a problem

Say ive installed bf2 onto my pc. When i click the play online now button its starts loadi screen. It those goes to a black screen like the game is lopening. After that it shows my desktop with the game completly closed. It does this everytime anyone have a solutin?

He said that he saw a tank before it crashes.

First of all, does his PC meet the min spec reqs?

Have him try the 'Play Battlefield 2' icon and not the 'Play BF2 Online Now!' icon.

Make sure he has all software firewalls off and all of his video, motherboard, and sound drivers up-to-date.

Then have HIM post here

But see what happens when you tell him to NOT use the 'Play BF2 Online Now!' icon ..use the other one labeled 'Play Battlefield 2'.

Also, is he running any software firewalls?

you sure that's a 40gb hd? bf2 will eat...lemme see...

3.2GB, plus you should have your pagefile set to 3gb, plus a few hundred MB's for the cache files...[edit], plus there's 3gb in the windows directory, which means you've used up a quarter of your available space JUST on an operating system and BF2. any movies? mp3's? games? MORE space!

so, if it's really a 40gb hd, I'm guessing the poor guy is swimming/spinning in fragmented, broken, busted bits.

solution? defrag the hd. that MAY work, but I doubt it. if not, i'd reformat and reinstall windows, and only add windows, drivers, and one or two games, or get (at least) a 150gb HD for longevity. use the 40gb for the pagefile and to store media. (or, use the 40gb for a "windows" drive and put all your programs/media on the 150gb--depending on how modern that 40gb you've got is).

He went back and checked the hd space. He has 80 gigs, not 40.

He's about to try to launch without the play bf2 online now option.

Yeah, TONS of people have problems using the 'Play Now!' icon, I just tell people to delete the damned thing...all it does it launches BF2, loads up your default profile, and then connect you to a server. I like to have a little more choice when it comes to a server

He said he tried normal shortcut, it still crashes to desktop when the game first starts up.

Have him delete his cache by deleting the contents of this folder:

c:\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache
