Have doubts about EA and BFROE taking actions?

I have to say, i was one of the people who thought, BFROE and EA....taking actions against cheaters in-game....yeah right...

though i was warned by someone in IRC that such actions like Pistol and Knife servers are violation of the BFROE i thought, like they'll do anything to me....

So i continued my gaming in knife and pistol servers.
last i remember i had about 400 knife kills and about 400 pistol kills as well.
Though i played other legit servers as well, when i needed that extra 200 points to rank up to staff sergeant or gunnery sergeant i would go on pistol and knife servers.

i got my game about three weeks ago. with 78 hours of gameplay, i would have been a gunnery sergeant about now.

But i go on today to find my rank as Private....
so i check my email and found this

Service Stat Reset For Battlefield 2 Account(s): kurosabamaru

Your Battlefield 2 account stats have been reset due to the following
violation of the Rules of Conduct and Terms of Service.

Violation: Exploitation of game/service mechanics/scoring system

As outlined, you will not violate the Electronic Arts Terms of Service
(or others using your Account) to gain unfair advantage via the abuse
    of game systems or mechanics.

You will not exploit any bug in the Service or in any EA product to
gain unfair advantage in the game and you will not communicate the
existence of any such bug (either directly or through the public posting) to
any other user of the Service. .

You will not do anything that interferes with the ability of other
Service users to enjoy playing an EA game and using the Service, in
accordance with its rules, or that materially increases the expense or
difficulty of Electronic Arts in maintaining the Service for the enjoyment of
    all its users.

Profiteering in the form of account farming or the reselling of player
profiles is not permitted. This is in violation of your end user
license agreement, the EA Terms of Service and the IGN User Agreement.
Player profiles are the property of EA and IGN and are not transferable
either free or for exchange of currency. This is because that by
reselling the player profile, the new owner of the account cannot be held
legally responsible for the terms and conditions of use since they were not
able to accept these terms before assuming the availability of play. A
player profile is YOUR responsibility. You are held completely
responsible for whatever happens to this profile by you or by other users of
    the profile.

The Rules of Conduct defines that you may not use features of the
Battlefield 2 service for any reasons other than what each feature is
designed to do. Any exploitative behavior and activity is not permitted on
the Battlefield 2 service and is strictly enforced.

Should Electronic Arts decide that the sole intent of the actions on
this account were to defraud other players for personal gain, this

The only bad thing is that the players who play on the servers get wiped while the servers themselves get to keep running. Why don't the admins that play on those servers all the time get their stats wiped?

many argue that since they are admin, it is them that pay for the servers.
          Their money, their rules....
at least thats one arguement i can see them making.

i remember there's one server that just runs even without the admin.
Does EA have the power to shut down servers that server admins pay for with their own money?

            Yes.
There's an agreement signed. The ROE is part of it. If you break the agreement, EA has the right to yank service regaurdless of payment. I suspect that a large part of the problem is that the "Trusted Partners" (the service providers being paid to host BF2 servers) are the ones who aren't taking action. They don't want to lose income, so they don't activly police their servers. Since they also host honest servers, it would be hard to force them to comply. EA wouldn't want to pull the plug on the service provider and shut down honest servers along with the bad ones.

            Big 'ol catch 22.

            Moral of the story;
People suck. Give 'em any kind of system and you can be sure they'll abuse it.

Edit: The above is speculation based on observation and past experience. I have no insider info on the matter. If I did, I prolly wouldn't be yapping about it.

EA should shot down those servers not reset the player's stats... why if he doesnt new that K/P servers are agains the ROE? "Ranked" means that EA takes resposibilty for that server that its legit and there are no cheats, exploiters whatsoever...

Re: Have doubts about EA and BFROE taking actions?

hmm so pistol/knife servers are technically illegal?

If so then why are they still listing them in gamespy?

I remember when ea released a decree saying demo servers running with "unlocked" weapons were banned and they proceeded to remove them from the game listings. They should be doing it with these servers also.

I have actually played on a knife/pistol server. I already had my basic pistol/knife badges so it was just for fun anyway. I'm not sure of the actual reasons that these servers were setup but they were actually alot of fun!

Decent high infantry traffic areas with people shooting all over the place.

Maybe it would be better if ea just leaves the servers on BUT disregards all ranking info coming from them. Hopefully leaving the fun factor while not catering to the padder factor :)

Re: Have doubts about EA and BFROE taking actions?

Ive only been on a pistol and knife server once, and it was an absolute blast, i honestly didnt go on to stat pad, i just thought id try it out( and i didnt get any huge score from it, mabye 70 i think ), but seriously having 10 lunatics jumping around a flag trying to stab one and other looks like the most stupidest thing in BF2, its hilarious and had me in stitches
I do realise people use it for stat padding, but i dont think EA are handling it in very constructive( their solution is taking the easy way out, a workaround for their own incompetence ), i mean how difficult would it be to check if 50-80% of kills on a server were knife or pistol kills at the end of each round, if it detects this then automatically send an email to EA, this of course could be firewalled, so if thats the case use the port number the server uses to send info to EA directly
I think if someone wants to use these servers for stat padding then just let them be, who cares, you'll always get some tool trying to break a system in some way or other
Id prefer people to use these to stat pad than everyone having to get an aimbot instead!!!!!!

Who cares what they do, who cares about stats, the only one who should care about stats is whoever is number 1, for the rest of us it doesnt matter, unless youre willing to spend 70 hours a week playing
