Sniping beyond the haze (150 meters)

I read all these sniper glory-tales of taking out people at 300 yards in game and I have to say..... "How?"

When I scope in on.... the Hotel at Sharqi from the Construction site, I can see a faint outline of the building and the occasional head poking up above the railing... and I take them down.

According to the flag on the balcony that's about 158 meters... now if I run to the back of the construction site, just 15 meters or so farther away, and sight in on the hotel, it vanishes into the fog...

So how are people claiming 300 (or hell, even 200) meter kills when even with 100% view distance, I can't see clearly beyond 170 meters?

Anybody got screenshots of a target 300 yards away? What's it look like?

    Is it map specific?

I doubt it's true, if it is, it's probably luck.

There's a bubble of the haze in the middle of the screen. If you move your view so you're looking at your target at the edge of your screen you'll see further; although, it won't help you target him, just know that he's there.

Many times I hear a sniper off in the distance. A quick view of your map should let you know if its a friendly or enemy. If you hear the sniper rifle go off from a direction where there isn't a friendly, you know its an enemy.

If you target doesn't move you might be able to target him though the haze (keep still and he'll show up red). Move a couple of pixels where you think he is...if he shows up red, release a round, otherwise keep searching.

Map specific, I guess so. On Wake Island I've taken a lot of kill beyond 300m. It's not hard if target is stationary. Just figure out correct elevation and take the shot. It's not always one shot kill but most people does nothing after first sniper hit. Then u don't have to do anything else except to shoot to just the same place with the second shot and that's it. On city maps ( and usually others too) there are no reason to try to shoot that distance, just get closer and u are way more effective.

I'm not sure what is the distance from Hill to Gas station on Mashtuur City, but I've made dozens of kills from the roof top of the Hill building by shooting the people attacking from the Gas station. There is that smoke present but when they are going over the top of the hill near Station buildings they are showing very clearly against the smoke. That's the time to pop some helmets

Im pretty sure for different maps there are different lengths that the fog of war extends and I think that sharqi is the worst cause all the bases are so close.

Something I've noticed OP is that the fog is very convexical. For example, if you get on the very top of the crane in sharqi, (not that I recommend it), you can't see the flag at TV station, but if you make it so that the flag is in the corner of your screen, not near your crosshairs, you will be able to see it. Then just re adjust and take a good estimite, and you should get the names showing up red.

Muzzle flash is also a dead give away for 300+ m sniping.

Here's a couple of shots on Kubra and wake well over 300 metres, pretty easy once you've got bullet drop worked out.

My favourite role is antisniper, and normally the only way to do it is at extreme range, the guy on the crane at Kubra took 2 shots at me and both landed about 5-7 feet in front of me.

BTW double click the movie to view fullscreen otherwise you'll see jack.

Wow, I play sniper a fair amount but I guess I don't play on maps large enough to have that kind of bullet drop. That was amazing that you had to aim so high over his head. </Thread Hijack>

i think i had to aim higher over my targets which means further away lol

woah! Crazy video... I never aim that high... you know... at that range my targets are usually standing or running, so I imagine that if im aiming at their heads or JUST barely over, I bet they are getting hit in the torso... VERY revealing footage, thanks!

If a target is running do you have to aim in front of him a lot, a little or not at all?
