BF2 crash...Please help!!

I'm actually posting on behalf of a friend. Hope that someone can help.

He's got a specific probelm for bf2. He has other games installed that all work fine.
When he starts up BF2 and connects to a server, the map loads, but problem starts when he tries to choose a kit to play. What happens is there is no mouse pointer, therefore he cannot choose a kit, or select a flag to spawn at. No matter what he tries he cannot get the mouse pointer to show up in game.

He has been in touch with EA who gave him a clean-up program to run, and they told him to un-install and re-install, but still the same probs.

He has got up to date drivers for everything, and as i said he has other games installed that all run fine (such as-WOW, Quake 4, Oblivion)

So, wondering if anyone else has encountered this, or a similar problem.

what are you freinds specs?
gfx card ,cpu ect

also has he got uptodate directx insalled when reisnalling bf2 it uses a loads a older version of dx9.0c

Not too sure of his specs but he has been running the game absolutely fine since august last year. In fact it was running ok on the day this first happened. He played in the afternoon and all was fine, then went to log in, in the evening and this happened.

I do know that he has updated his directx9.0c because he had to install this to get Oblivion working.

All drivers have been updated including direct x.
