When i join a multiplayer game, it seems to stay on "Loading Complete, Verifying Client Data" for ages, about 5-10 mins. This is annoying because i join a game, and usually it's over before i can join and then it changes the map! Do you think this is something to do with my firewall, or my computer?

Could you give us your computer specs? It will be more easier to solve then. -

Re: Long loading time on multiplayer
get a bit more memory it will start clearing up. My friend has 512 mb of ram and his loading times take a loooong time. So i dont know about anyone elses opinion but i think it is your ram. maybe go up to 1 gig or even 2 if you can.Comment

Re: Long loading time on multiplayer
More memory will definitly help loading times. Even in BFV 512-1gb RAM was like night and day. Both your RAM and your graphics card are bottlenecksComment

Re: Long loading time on multiplayer
Its definetely your RAM, If you want to get the full potential of your computer in BF2, you need 2 gigs. of RAM. With 2 gigs, you will not only have much faster load times, but you may be able to turn your graphics up a little more than what you have them at.Comment

Re: Long loading time on multiplayer
yes, warhawk is right. Getting 2 gigs of ram can speed up your loading times and you can put 1 or 2 settings higher than you have them now.Comment

Re: Long loading time on multiplayer
dont forget to update PB! Ram just helps with the loading times like loadin useless stuff off ur ram and textures and modesl onto the ram, so try updating pb first
then if that doesnt work...defragging helps when it puts ur bf2 files togetherComment

Re: Long loading time on multiplayer
The 9600 and 9700 from ATI are both cards that usually has a lot of problems. I own a 9700 myself (laptop), and it ****s up every now and then. Thats why my new card is an nVidia. There isn't anything you can do about it unfortunately. Turning down the graphichs settings might help with your startup issue, at least for some time.Comment

Re: Long loading time on multiplayer
an old slow hard drive will also cause slow access as the verify client data for example is creating md5 checksums from the data files (i believe) and on my cpu usage it doesnt even use over 10%..... let alone the time getting the info off the HD into ram for normal usage..
accidentally put the game onto an older 5400 rpm drive, like omfg....
could always stripe some raptor drives to if you have some spare cash, two of my housemates bought identical systems with the exception of one bought a standard 7200 rpm drive (cant remember which) and the other bought two raptors and striped them (NVQ not supported by his controler either) and the difference in loading time for World of Warcraft was almost 50% reduction... havnt seen anyone using it in bf2, but would be interestingComment

Re: Long loading time on multiplayer
W01fy hit it on the head for me - thanks!!! I have two drives - one old 20 Gig and one new 160 Gigger. I had BF2 installed on the old drive and was waiting 4-5, 10 minutes at a map change for Verifying Client Data. Talk about wanting to shoot and kill once loaded!Originally posted by w01fyan old slow hard drive will also cause slow access as the verify client data for example is creating md5 checksums from the data files (i believe) and on my cpu usage it doesnt even use over 10%..... let alone the time getting the info off the HD into ram for normal usage..

Anyway, I had no clue what the bottleneck was - CPU? Video? RAM? Never occured to me that it might be the hard drive accessing files. Anyway, in addition to my old drive being slow, it was also horribly fragmented. So reinstalling BF2 on the new drive was a double bonus as the new install allowed for zero fragmentation on a much faster (7200 RPM) drive. It now verifies the client in about 30 seconds. Woohoo! Game on! Thanks again Wo1fy.Comment
