    Question concerning graphics options

I have everything maxed....except for one thing.

When I play maps with it ALL maxed...it's perfectly smooth. However, when I play Karkand and look towards the middle of the map, even just at a building in the way (it's just when I look in the general direction of the middle of the map), my FPS drops to 5. Why?

I have everything maxed now except for textures...which is medium. The textures is the only one that lags me out, but only on karkand when I look in the general direction of the middle of the map, whether or not I'm looking at a building in my face or off into the distance. It also sometimes happens when I'm on the Sharqi station roof and look towards the middle of the map. It's completely smooth, otherwise.

might be because sharqi and karkand have so many buildings, so when you are basically looking into the heart of the cities, the system might have to work harder to render all the buildings. compared to other maps like dragon vally which are more open. trying lowering your AA, maybe its because its having to smooth out the edges of all the buildings, it lags.

thats just a wild guess tho.

tell me your CPU and RAM
then I can help you more

If you let us know you system specs that may help us pin-point the problem.

Sounds like a texture memory thing to me personally. This could be related to the video card memory, RAM or Aperture size designated in your BIOS.

What graphics card? How much RAM? What processor? What is your normal FPS?

It could be that there is a wider variety of textures in the middle of the karkand map so your computer starts using virtual memory b/c you don't have enough RAM (2GB is ideal). Alternatively, you could have plenty of RAM and a great graphics card but your CPU can't process all the incoming information quickly enough.

You can see my specs in my sig and I run everything maxed at 1280x1024 and I never drop below 30FPS (usually I'm wayyyy above this though).

Also, you will probably get a better response posting in the "Support" forum than in the general BF2 discussion.

              AMD Athlon 64 proccessor 3000+
              1.80 GHz
              2 gigs of ram
              GeForce 6600 GT (256)

Havn't measured FPS, but it's completely smooth, unless high textures and looking at the middle of the map. Then the screen updates once every 3 seconds or so.

try lowering the shadows and dynamic light this will kill youre card,
im thinking maybe all the shadows are working youre card a bit to hard.

you can live without shadows there not the best anyway.

yeah, but it's not laggy in the least...like perfectly fine. I'm curious why just increasing textures from medium to high causes such a HUGE loss in FPS?

I experimented with on and off to see what would cause my game to play smooth. After messing around, nothing at all lagged my machine, except for high textures on those 2 particular spots. All the other maps run fine with all maxed.
