          Rubbish. The AIM-9 wouldn't have that big a boom.

          I'm sure there are far scarier moments on the flight deck of a carrier.

              That happens occsaionally when a jet traps. The missile's momentum makes it break off the hardpoint, and continues down the flight deck, and usually, into the ocean. This happens during landings.

                    thats correct

                    the jet will land and get jerked to a stop, but the missile will keep going.
