New Laptop vs. BF2 and BF2142

I'm getting an Apple laptop. I'm switching from my power-PC which will play any game on all high setting with AA on max, to an Apple laptop. I really need to know if I will be able to play BF2 and BF2142 on all high settings. Here are the specs:

    CPU: Pentium D (dual core) @ 2.23
    RAM: 2 gigs
    Video Card: ATI Mobility X1600

Will I be able to play BF2 and BF2142 (assuming BF2142 will require similar specs as BF2) on all high?

Im not 100% sure but I think the ATI 1400 isn't one of the "strongest" video cards compared to a x1600.

I would upgrade ram, and if your saving cash go 80gb 7200rpm.

I dont think you will be playing on all high settings, I would seriously recommend building a PC opposed to playing on a laptop. I had the same decision, laptop or build a pc...I went with PC main reason being: If its a laptop, I wanna atleast carry it without getting a workout (lbs), gotta have a great video card (has to run settings on high for me), and a great processor.

Only thing I came close to was an MSI-1039, was ok...but was getting skeptical about heat, lbs, and strength. Well I went for building a pc since it would be cheaper in the long run and be great, could upgrade and play games in the future...

          my .02 peace.

btw, laptops that have great video cards 7900gtx's, x1900xt's are all monster laptops that are not light, are loud, and produce heat that could burn a hole in my pants.

You mean burning it? haha true, thats why its more logical to build a PC, than buying a gaming laptop. Im glad I didn't go that way, plus building it is always fun!

I'm getting the laptop because it is required where I'm going, so I'm just making sure I get one that will play the games I like.

Also, the current PC I have is built by me.

Im just going to throw out some laptops since you need one. But yeah the pc is always the way to go with gaming

MSI-1039 not out yet ..maybe check out notebookreview.com under msi..
Sager NP5320 (revamped with a duo and nicer GPU) not out yet
                  Some dell's
                  Sager NP5720
...can't think of anymore..but those are some well built platforms

I am getting the Apple notebook because that is the one that is required. It is really nice, as you can see.

Congrats on your Mac Book Pro.
                          I have a 2ghz Duo Core 15 inch 2gig ram ATI X1600 256mb 100mb HD Mac myself.

It does play BF2 SF Euro soon AF as well.
                          Should play 2142 as well.
Currently I have my settings on Med and I get good frames 80-85fps.
I have not had the time to look into overclocking the video just got the notebook a week before the 17's came out.

I did read in the apple support forums that they did nerf the video a little because of heat concerns.
But I bet the OC tools for ATI gpu's will probably fix that problem.
One thing I would recomend get your self one of those notebook cooling pads the ones with the fans in them.
That will keep your notebook nice and cool.
These things can get very hot with out one of those pads.

I think you will like your mac I love mine.

                          Good Luck

So the mac doesn't run BF2 on all high settings?

With a good frame rate, probably not. I don't think there really is any laptop for a reasonable price that could play BF2 on all high at high resolutions at the moment .
