This is just to inform my fellow beginners that using a joystick to fly jets is EXTREMELY useful. Im sure everyone knows this already but i was not aware as to the extent at which it helped. I used a simple mouse and keyboard for the longest time to fly jets, and would constantly suck no matter how much i practiced. If I had someone else flying shotgun, I would always get out and let them fly. I finally put down the thirty bucks to buy my friends saitek evo force (it had two broken buttons) and it was amazing how much it improved my jet flying. I still practice in single player all of the time, but now I am not scared when i have a co-pilot. I strongly recommend buying a simple cheap joystick if you want to truely harness the full potential of the game. (please remember, this is just for the complete and utter noob like me, so all of you seasoned players please dont flame and say that i am just stating the obvious)

No need to flame but thats your preference, I fly both chopper and jet with a keyboard and mouse and I don't suck, recently started using the jet in the last month or so and its fun as hell. -

Yes, it is all in payer preferance. I use a joystick for jets, and a keyboard and mouse for helicopters. I have tried using mouse and keyboard for jets... but it didnt work to well.Comment

I cant fly with the mouse for crap... so i use WASD and the Arrow keys at the same time .. lol
I made Left CTRL fire, and 0 alt fire.
I can fly choppers with ease now, and jets are even easier. I found with the mouse as soon as something starts going wrong.. you over correct yourself and end up crashing.Comment

I can make do with the keys for a chopper, I tried with a friends stick but it would take a bit of practice. As for jets, no hope here with keys and a mouse :) I think I got one kill once heh.Comment

If I got a new joystick (my current won't work for some reason) then I would try it out, but I really have no problems with flying using a mouse and keyboard. Also, does anyone have that Logitech Wireless Freedom Fighter joystick? I think that's what it's called.Comment

keyboard/mouse was hard for jets at first, but got much easier afterwards. Personally I think I fly fine without the stick.Comment

I use JUST the KB with NO mouse and i have a 6.26kdr, it just takes practice . Been flying that way since Bf42 wake island . For anyone who says they NEED a joystick i just laugh . Sure there handly but its not imposible too be allright with a KB . Flying in BF2 is easy compaired to say BF42/DC where there was no lock on.Comment

Just adjust sensitivity for pitch, yaw, and roll
it also helps to have a mouse like the logitech mx518 which has
sensitivity presets you can change from the mouse itself.
The combination of these two elements / configurations will help
you unleash your inner Jet/chopper whore!!!Comment

i strongly recommend switching your yaw with your roll in your controls.com, so that when you move the mouse left and right it turns the jet/heli rather than rolling it. i find i have a more intuitive control using this method without a joystick.Comment

My personal experience: joy gave me great improvement with jets, but not with heli... i'm continuing to use keys/mouse with chops.Comment
