Does it take anyone else a long time to log in?

the reason im asking is b/c it took at least a minute or little less than a minute to log into bf2. some people might have that problem to and i just assumed it was the EA server fault. but then i went under the community tab and noticed i had all of these battlefield recorder stuff. so i deleted all of them and it made logging in such a breeze meaning in a couple of seconds. im not sure if when u log in it has to retrieve all of that info or not.

only if i select play online now - it takes around 5 minutes to find a server, which is usually laggy and/or empty and/or just crap!

moral : never select play online now! :P

On my original account, yes, it takes up to a minute to log in, but, on my newer accounts, that I hardly use, takes up to 10seconds. I think it's something to do with the history/ache folder of your account. Because, once, I deleted some folders of my original account and logged in in seconds, but when I restored the folders, it was taking a long time to log in again.

Go and delete your favorites from your

        X:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

Replace the bolded with what applies in your case.

        Open General.con

        Delete all lines starting:

        GeneralSettings.setServerFavorites

        Save

Alternatively you could login and go to Multiplayer > Favorites and delete the servers there that you don't consider your favorites if you don't feel confident editing game files. This will definitely speed things up.

Wreck is right its to do with your favourites, I had like 10-15 favourites and it took me like 1-2 minutes to log in, now I only have 2 favourites and it takes about 10 seconds maybe less.

The best way is to delete the account.

Back up everything in your 0001 folder (or whichever one it is... 0002... 0003... etc).

Just copy the whole 0001 folder and put it on your desktop.

Now go into BF2 and manage accounts. Delete the account, and then after it's deleted, restore the account. This only deletes your account from the HD... you won't lost stats/unlocks.... etc.. thats all on the gamespy servers.

Now close out of BF2 and go into the 0001 folder that you copied earlier. Go into General.con and take out all of the things that start with GeneralSettings.addServerHistory and GeneralSettings.setServerFavorites then close and save.

After you are done with that, just copy the whole 0001 folder and put it back where it belongs.

You could just take the server history/favorites out without deleting the account, but deleting the account and doing it this way seems to work better than just deleting the history/favorites. I think it clears out some type of cache or something.. I don't really know... all I know is what I posted makes you log in in <10 sec.

actually, that wouldn't do anything to help even more, metallica. it's the profile folder that slows down the game itself. delete the folder, you log in half a second. if you move it, make a new folder, then copy it back, you're not gaining any more performance than just deleting the history lines in the general.con.

also, the higher your video resolution, the longer it'll take. not significant, but it will affect it.
