    Squad Hopping & Wake Island

So do you guys think banning squad hoping will make Wake Island that much more difficult for the USMC to get a beach head?

How about Iron Gator for the MECsf in SF?

I see this as a boon for Chinese Forces on Wake, but over all I agree with the spirit of the ban, though it would suck if you got stuck on a crappy team.

The proponents of the change are going to say "oh, teamwork this and teamwork that", whatever, the only teamwork that will help is the lack of on the PLA side.

Yeah, it will probably hurt the USMC...

They really need to add another BH and increase BH armor for the USMC to have an equal of winning on a pub server.

Don't bother playing as USMC on Wake after the patch unless you like getting owned. Maybe if we all whine enough about the map being unfair they will make it so PLA side doesn't shoot bullets, that or put squad leader switching back in (yeah...right).

Am I missing something? I must not be reading the squad-hopping issue the same way as some of you. As I understand you won't be allowed to join a new squad while you are dead. But if you are alive, you can join. So on Wake, or any other map, this still isn't an issue. When you see a squad about to cap a flag, join the squad and suicide or wait to die... then you can spawn on the Squad Leader. A 6-man squad can cap flags fast and squad hopping won't have any impact on a cohesive squad that has a good SL. The goal of this is to keep squads intact and force folks to work together to reap the benefit of the squad-spawn option, right?

as I see it now on most pub servers people don't pay enough attention to squads anyways so it won't be that much different than it is now, perhaps even a little better. I can't count the times I've been one of the first ones to spawn, make a squad, take a boat to the tip of the north part of the island, and sit there for 5 minutes waiting for people to join and spawn on me while I evade the tanks and whatnot...and no one ever does...

If you see a squad that IS doing their job, and you're on another one, just join that one when you're alive, and then spawn there the next time you die! (or the time after that)

Agreed. On public servers I have spent the better part of a whole game lying prone on a tin roof as a squad leader with no results to show for it.

It will be harder, not by much, but i love the challange on wake to take that first flag. What we need is better squad leaders... but i dont think ea can create those.

The whole squad hopping change is blown out of proportion IMO. Im not going to worry about it to much. I admit i have done it, but i wont miss it either.

Ditto. I've begged folks to join my squad to help take an initial flag and noone does... they sit on the carrier waiting for a jet or chopper. Or, my favorite, they join my squad and instead of helping to cap a flag, they run away to steal a jet or chopper from the enemy.

I remember when EA first announced ranked servers... they said something like, 'this is where the best of the best will play' and that 'new users should play on unranked servers to gain experience.' That's clearly not the case.

                        edit:
Found it on EA: "Unranked servers will be the best environment for new players to learn Battlefield 2"

I hate squad-hopping, but swapping squad leaders is an important tool that is going out the window because a dead squad leader can't leave the squad to make someone else the new spawn point. Kill the squad leader = kill any hope of getting that flag. And I'm not going to suicide to spawn on someone because that's just stupid...if it was a clan match then sure because those aren't ranked.

You're assuming that the squad leader will still be alive by the time you die and respawn. Unless he goes and hides under a rock and earns no points (and the enemy commander doesn't believe in scan or UAV) then he'll be toast.

Just because you're playing in a server with no teamwork doesn't mean the rest of us should have to suffer. Find a different server and discover the usefulness of cyling squad leaders.

I agree if by better you mean "willing to be nothing more than a spawn point and do no fighting or anything but hide".

Besides since when the round starts you're techincally dead so you can't join a squad then either. This means absolutely no teamwork because I assure you the early spawners will grab the vehicles and leave the slower loading folks to stand on the carrier to get raped by arty and jets. But I guess it should make the air/helo badges and medals easier to get.

IF, that's how they implement it, then you might have more of a chance, but waiting the extra time till you die (though sitting topside on the carrier is good way to speed it up), then you have to hope that the guy can stay alive, as the guys that aren't in jets killing you on the carrier are itching for someone to kill. But the way they intitially stated was, that you could use the squad screen while dead, but you'd have to spawn once on a static point before you could spawn on the new squadleader. But, since we don't even know how they are going to screw this one up, we'll just have to wait and see.

it really is going to mess up two man squads that cycle the leader when one dies. not to mention when taking a vehicle at the start of the round, i dont wait for other people to load the game (they take forever, whereas mines fast) and i invite people to my squad to copliot and they spawn on me.

so really as long as the invite is still active at all times and you can spawn on your squad leader the first time, then it wont be so bad.

im not so bothered with people joining a squad to spawn, then leaving again, but that is what EA need to focus on, as well as a longer timer for people to spawn on the squad leader. 5 people charging you again and again every 15 seconds, is quite retarded.
