Download xfire, and use the communication function. It's free and it works for 2 people. You do not have to leech someones Vent bandwidth since you are concerned about cost. You will also have the ability to text chat and follow your buddies into servers. It's a good program.

Ventrillo is a free program, just download install and set up a server on your PC, then give your buddy the ip port no. and passwords.

                            Re: ventrilo

It depends on your level of experience with a computer. You would need to be able to d/l and install the server version of Vent. After that you need to make sure the port is open on your router so that it'll work, so you need to have admin access to your router.

Then you need to start up the server, and give out the IP / port to whoever is joining this. And...I'm going to guess you'll be able to run the dedicated server on your machine, and then also run the client so you can connect to it.

Oh, depending on what codec you set it up for will depend on quality, but more important, the amount of bandwidth it takes up. So you'll be coughing up bandwidth and resources running the server, client, having connected clients, and playing BF2 from the same machine. Still wanna do this?

Do as mentioned before and join a public server, or use Xfire for this.
