                  Re: BF2.LT Tournament Movies 2006

I downloaded it and watched it last night... wow. Fantastic video. I completely loved the effects and the angles associated with it.

My only complaint is the music choice! While you definately have done the best job regarding that song selection, its such a common song!

                    Hiya plugas,
I feel honoured to be asked to review your videos.

Since I usually wait for a few posts to build before leaving a remark (for point taking) I didn't post sooner, but now I must reach some conclusions.

First, I've seen a lot of BF2 movies in my time, (just the valid ones) and I see allot of potential in all authors. Most of them though I don't see again sadly. The enthusiasm is lost? I don't really know, but the authors who do continue producing I can really dig for, because they are not just single riders. People who just use what footage they grab purely for content, no thought put into any aspect that makes a good movie.

I'm glad now I waited a bit for Mattc0m, his point is a valid one I'm afraid. P.O.D's boom is greatly overused. I don't mean to drag it on you yourself because it is not the use of the song that brought your video down, but other peoples use. I say for once and only, blame them!

But we are not just hear the music. I do recognise trends in movie makers talents. Plugas, yours is obviously your wild and exciting panning techniques. As I talked about before. Extreme movements for extreme moments, god only knows if I get the opportunity to try out such things in future projects.

Now, you can be the best "editor" in the world, but content can only be dressed up so far. The amazing difference between your first video and this one is fact that the content was completely original, and funny!
But the award in my book comes down to turning the chosen game machinima into something it's not designed for. I'm no fan of ownage videos with load rock music (goes back to that old trend of single riders I mentioned) but I'm a fan of teamwork, so it remotely kept me watching as much as the next gameplay footage will which is what Bf2 is meant to do well, no assistance needed.

What to work on, the looks...
I don't know about allot of other peoples preferences around here, but I don't like over brights, glows, etc. BF2 is bright enough, and I do see some rather static effects that don't fit so pleasing (more like tearing) across the screen. You also stated that the quality could do with improving? Yes maybe, but make sure if you do it’s in the smoothness of video frame rate, no lag. The picture quality is just fine as it is so sort one thing at a time.

                    Variation…
This is where you cannot play on one effect for too long. Whether it be flashing transitions, black outs. Music videos can be so free when it comes down to visual styling. The music video will have a beat. “Boom Boom” was overused so much a few months back and it comes natural that you know what happens on those words, but what about changing colour shades, rapid rewinding, overlays / mood graphs flashing text.
I have little experience in music video I accept that, having only done 1 short cue. But even I know then that I was pouring out ideas faster than I could implement them! I didn’t know how far I could go, but that road has ended… for now.

Don’t let me stop you from completing the series, if it’s not some folks cup of tea it is very good practise no matter what, so be inventive and you will impress.
Kudos for 3rd party sound effects too.
Keep it up Plugas, you’ve got all my support.
