Re: Grenade launcher on assault rifle
Although the GLs have been nerfed by patches and aren't the weapons they used to be, they are still effective once you get the hang of them. The issue with them bouncing is mainly to do with the arming distance - at very short range they don't explode immediately after the patch to remove "noobtubing". I've personally never had a GL bounce at longer range, so it must be an occasional bug if some of you experience it.
The GL is best used against tightly-packed clusters of enemies (perhaps a squad advancing together down an alleyway) or against light vehicles. Even if you don't kill the whole squad, you'll soften them up and make them easier to drop with your rifle (which is the stated point of the GL as implemented by EA/DICE for this game). Worst case is it gets you a few kill assists if you don't get them all yourself. Against vehicles, you need to make sure that they're not right on top of you (need to engage beyond the arming distance of the grenade), but if you score a direct hit, it's going to hurt them. Nothing better than a guy driving a dune buggy at you expecting to get a road kill and you blowing him away with a grenade. Personally, I like the fact that the GL is an "explode on impact" weapon rather than a "timed fuse" weapon like the hand-thrown frags. Sometimes that's useful... Not always, but sometimes.
I too like the G3 and could live without the GL happily enough, but the 20-round clip really annoys me so I tend to go with other guns instead. And if I have the GL, I use it. Not much point in not making the most of the full range of firepower in your own personal arsenal...
Ah yes, the OICW and it's rapid-fire GL... That was one of GR's best weapons...
