Jones, I haven't used the GP30/M203 in pub play in a while, and I tend to command in match play a fair amount, so I'm not using them in matches much either. But I will say, the F2000 seems to bounce more, and it seems to have a lower trajectory.
I dunno if the bounce is real though, hard to imagine them coding in completely different characteristics for each GL.
ill give you a hint those bars you see for the crosshair each is equal to about 10 meters if you put top bar on the base of a flag 10 metters away you will hit the base of the flag the second highest bar is 20 metters the 3rd highest bar is 30 the fourt is 40 and the bottom is 50 metters. you have to get good at deciding how far away your target is at first.
everything is deadly on bf2 if you know how to use it.i have begun to master taking out enemy snipers with supply crates when im commander and it works =)
******** - you have no idea what you are talking about
the gl right now
1. Doesnt land on the crosshairs on longer range shots
2. Bounces unpredictably
3. Has less splash damage than the AT rocket and is useless now at its intended purpose (anti light vehicle)
My view as a long time Assault class player and guilty of noobtubing just once(i still feel bad about it lol), is that mastering the G3 is far more worthwhile than learning to use the GL now in its present weak and undynamic state
My my, so quick with the personal attacks. Testy Testy
Perhaps you need to practice more, but I don't have a problem landing a round pretty much anywhere I want it to go. It is absolutely deadly from above and as I have been playing primarily SF, can tell you that it will take out technicals, ATVs, and AIL Raiders in one shot w/o any problems - when they're moving I might add. It is also very effective on damaged armor and I routinely take out MBTs and APCs. I also have very little problem with the rounds bouncing beyond arming distance.
Don't believe me, come visit me on Warlord next time and you - like a lot of players - will wonder why they keep dying and never see or hear anything except boom.
hmm before the 1.2 patch is it? everytime I went in Karkand lmao, I got killed like 20 times with the GL, everytime someone ran round the corner they fire at at their feet killing me and not them.
Now its rare as an eclypse to see someone use the GL on me.
Although the GL is still very powerful, it's simply not the weapon it used to be. The funny thing about the v1.2 grenade-launcher fix was that it broke every thing about the grenade launcher that wasn't broken and didn't fix what it was supposed to fix. The arming distance/bouncing effect hasn't fully detered noob-tubing as a grenade that hits the ground before arming will simply bounce 1 foot further and blow up anyway.
The decreased blast radius along with the fact that the GL does deviate like most other weapons in the game do has made the GL less effective at range, which was never the object of the GL nerf in the first place. The GL also doesn't do as much damage to vehicles as it used to: three hits to kill a jeep (or more if some decide to bounce off :p) and all five to down a chopper, when it took only about three before the patch (which is funny since choppers had an HP reduction).
It is absolutely deadly from above
That it is, but for the most of the round I'm not on roofs.
I think a lot of the earlier posts mised the whole point of your question, so I will address it. The Granade launcher (even in its current state) can kill enemy troops. I mainly use it on guys I think are using a wall hack, usually they are support too, because its a one shot kill when they go prone.
I would say that if you want to learn to use it do it like any other weapon you want to learn. Spend some time in lan mode or single player against the Bots using it. That way it wont negatively affect your stats. Then when you feel you are ready try it a few times in multiplayer. I personally almost never use the same kit for a complete round and I would use the assualt class the same way. This should bring you the skills that you seek in the most painless way.
Now, a word about the current state of the Granade launcher. The worst part of the way the Granade launcher works now is that its almost impossible to kill more than one enemy at a time no matter how close they are. With the old version I have killed 6 with one shot. The other part is that the physics and the bounce is hard to predict (will it bounce 1 foot or 5, will it explode on impact or go through the wall).
I believe that a better solution to the problem the pre 1.2 GL had, and it did have a problem, was to give a 5 second penelty (add 5 seconds) on to your respawn time every time you got a message that said " (players name) is no more" the 5 second penelty would last all that round and would be added to for every instance that happened. In order to be fair it should be given for all TKs also. This would cut down on a lot of bad things that happen in the game but you would have to make all vehicles unable to damage (road kill) team mates for this to work. This is just an Idea I really cant see EA ever doing this. Anyway thats my 2 cents. . . . . . . Red
Just practise. That's the only way you'll learn how to use it effectively.
Try and judge how much to aim up by how far you are from the target. You can achieve kills pretty easy at close range. Kills at medium and long range will require some practise.
Mainly, when I play Assult, I use the F2000. The F2000's larger clip and greater accuracy (yes, it is more accurate) make up for the less damage it does than the G3.
The GL, too, can be an awesome weapon (IMO, of course), you just have to know when/how to use it. It has a much greater range than the Frag, and while it may not always kill an enemy, it'll definately soften them up to take out with the F2000, or even the Pistol. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, you can take enemies out at long range. With the G3 you can, but it's not as easy.
Some complain that the GL has too little splash-damage, but if you hit enemies directly, or near-by (I can easily), you don't need to worry about that. And again, as I said earlier, even if you don't kill them, you can easily finish them with some bullets.
Hope that made sense; I'm pretty tired.
If you want me to 'teach' you, say so and I will. but of course, the besy way to learn is practice.
If i believed in god, i'd pray to him to bring back the old-school grenade launcher. I always thought the one on Ghost Recon was sweet, and the pre 1.2 version was similar to it.
i wouldve tried to help you Peter back when the GL was a decent weapon, but a few patches back they altered it to make it much harder to kill at close range. now its only effective from short to medium range, and even then its still a bit iffy. man i miss the days when i used to own with the GL... *sighs*
You mean when you used to bunny hop and point and click?

I had a feeling someone would get their little frilly pink knickers in a twist when i said this. Look, i had no problem with them removing the ability to shoot while jumping, that was just annoying and led to alot of abuse, but they went too far and pretty much destroyed the grenade launchers ability as a weapon, OK?

nope, he was right on the money
