Router Firewall

Hey, I was wondering why is it when I connect my router to my modem, I cannot host a server, but if I go straight from the modem to my PC I can host a server just fine .

I've tried messing around with my router settings but it's no use, I have no clue how to work this crappy router (D-Link AirPlus Extreme G Wireless Router).

You have to forward the incoming ports to the computer, so it knows where to send the data.
