Direct X 8.1?

Is there a way to run the game on direct X 8.1? i know that 8.1 in Half Life will give you a major fps boost, and i really dont have a good computer anymore (all i have are whats in my sig *sigh*) is it possibleas a command line or something? i know that 9.0c is meant to be optimal, but i dont think its necessary on all LOW settings. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

no, unfortunatly this game was made using DX9 only.

TBH its a friggin shame cos EA wud have had a much larger population if the game was made using DX8 & 9 as it wud have played better on older machines (like myself)
