    6600 gt and like 40 fps :/

About 1 year ago i built the following pc

    P4 3.0 GHz
    6600 GT 128 mb PCIE X16
    100 gb sata maxtor hardrive
    intergrated mobo sound card
    1 gb ram pc3200

HERE are the settings i have bf2 set at

I get 20-80 frames in bf2 and i can't take it anymore Shouldn't i be getting like 50 fps and no lower with the settings im running at?? Is it cause i only got 1 gb ram and if i ugprade to 2 gb ram lag will stoP?

I'm not sure what this thing is but im guessing this is showing how much ram is being used??

It's using 1.21 gb and i only got 1 gb. I Also notice my hardrive light is blinking alot so i'm guessing its caching the info with hardrive when it runs out of ram?? I just want to get 50 frames and higher!

Also i defrag every week and i'm sure all my drivers are up to date.

I reccomend www.overclock.net Not saying to OC it just look for tools to measure your FPS. The game may be wrong. Also I may suggest going with modded drivers as modders have more skills than large companies.

I use fraps to measure fps. I had used modded driver before and it actually made game more laggy.

1GB RAM and you have 35 processes running in the background? I'm shure that doesn't help much. When I had 1 GB ram I had 16 processes running and approximately 850MB free when I started BF2.

Use the program SmartClose to close background system processes, look for it on Google, it helped my game a LOT!

Take off AA as the 6600GT only has a 128bit memory interface which doesnt handle AA very well. The rest of your settings look good though. Yes another gig of ram should make the game smoother but it wont give you more fps. The 2xAA is what is giving you problems, I experienced the same whan I had that card

An extra 512mb-1gb of ram will make a big difference. I had a 6600GT 128 AGP and managed 1280x960 and 2xaa with higher settings than you have now, but I did have 1.5gb ram (then 2gb dual channel when I upgraded the mobo).

Install Coolbits 2.0, overclock your card ( a bit at a time, you should be able to at least increase the core clock by 10%) and in the card properties, set the Performance & Quality settings to "Performance".

Free up some ram by disabling unused windows services.
                http://www.overclockersclub.com/guid...p_services.php
You should only be using 120-150mb on start up, with maybe 16-25 services running (I've 22 processes and 130mb at start up).

Also use Start-Run-msconfig to disable any unwanted programs starting up with windows.

Overclocking may help but not much. Add another gig of ram and that would help more.

                  I have a 6600GT (for now)

                  My settings are:
                  terrain med
                  geo: high
                  texture: high
                  lighting:high
                  shadows:low
                  dynamic shadows: med
                  other lighting setting: high
                  AA 2x
                  view 100%

runs great on these settings, looks awsome also!

take off the AA will help (and you can probably raise more settings)
                    get anoterh .5 - 1gb of ram.

the thing is, just because you spend 130$ on computer parts, bf2 isnt gonna run perfectly. stop complaining pepople!! sorry bout that tiny rant anyways...

i want to know more about this 128bit interface not handeling AA well....

because the 7600gt performs better than the 6800gt by a hair, and the 6800gt has 256but and the 7600gt has 128. does that mean the 7600gt doesnt handle AA very well?

or were you talking about the SIZE of the memory??

weird, i have a 6600GT (see my sig) & if i have 2xaa enabled i get a performance boost, i take it off & game is unplayable.

In Taskmanager, it looks like you only have about 60MB of RAM "avalible" to other programs.. including BF2(OUCH!). Uninstall some of your background processes, and run a spyware check! I always have 700mb+ RAM left to BF2 and other games, you only have 60! Go to the processes tab and see what's hogging all that memory.

Disable the opening movies on BF2, and some RAM will be saved. Also, disabling the 2x antialiasing will increase performance by a huge amount.

Re: 6600 gt and like 40 fps :/

Alot of people come on these forums with the same issue. The solution is very simple, BF2 requires atleast 2GB of memory to run with all settings maxed out. On top of that you have to disable your swap file or else you will encounter horrendous audio stuttering which is the HD activity you speak of. The 6600GT is capable of much much more than your crappy settings (no offense). I can max out everything except AA, and shadows which is set to medium. First of all, use this link to trim your services down: http://www.dead-eye.net/WinXP%20Services.htm

Then you may wanna goto start>run>type msconfig and disable whatever programs that you don't need. You may still be able to crank some of your settings up with 1GB of ram if you disable your swap file but it will be tricky to balance the settings with the amount of memory required to use these features as BF2 will crash once it runs out of physical memory. Your swap file is used as a way to store data that would normally be in RAM onto your HD once your RAM becomes full. Actually, it's a whole lot more complicated than that and windows tends to use the dreaded swap file no matter how many petabytes of RAM you have.

                            My Rig:
                            2.26Ghz
                            XFX 6600GT 128Mb AGP
                            2Gb RAM
                            500Watts PSU

All my settings are on Medium with 85 refresh rate at 1024x768.
AA is Off as it's not that much of an increase for performance loss!
The game runs nice and smooth, No lag unless the actual SERVER is lagging.

Turn off AA and problem is solved. I got a very similiar rig. Exept i got a BFG 6600GT Pre-Oc and I run the first couple settings on high. Then i got the Dynamic stuff on medium or low.
