BF@ wont start after buying new 21 " lcd monitor!

Hello guys i just bought an awesome 21" Gateway lcd flatscreen monitor with 8rms response time, but when i go to start bf2 it just kicks back to the desktop. I know it has something to do with the native resolution of the monitor needing to be set in the game but how do i set it if the game wont start. Should i put my old monitor back on and set it then put my new 1 back on, or is there away around this?

Delete your cache files.

ok i got it. my monitor's native resolution is 1680x1050 and i noticed that resolution setting is not available in the drop down graphics menu in game. It defaults me to 1024x 768. Any ideas about how i can get that specific resolution for this game so the whole screen is used?

Ok I am having the same problem. Just got 19" LG L1932 and am getting kicked to desktop. I tried setting my monitor to 1024x768, tried modifying the bf2 shortcut to +szx 1280 +szy 1024, also tried deleting the bf2 cache files (I deleted all of the whole folders in the cache folder. Still I crash to desktop. Any suggestions? would it require a reinstall?

The settings that contain your display settings are in:

C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001\video.con

(or 0002 0003 if you have more that one profile)

You can either edit video.con to 1024x768@60Hz which most monitors are able to handle. Here is the specific setting:
VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@60Hz

... or delete the entire ..\Profiles\0001\ folder or the whole \my Documents\Battlefield 2\ folder.

If you delete the profiles or 0001 or battlefield 2 folder you will have to retrieve your account again, via the login screen. Your stats aren't lost, just your display and keyboard settings etc.

Most likely your old monitor ran the game at higher Hz, so changing the resolution without taking the refresh rate (Hz) into account would do no good.

Hey thx for the help but after a little more searching I found a forum that said to delete the video.con in both profiles 0001 and default folders and I edited the shortcut +szx 1280 +szy 1024 and it worked. I'm really happy now and the game looks and still runs great :)
