Man, they really should teach WWII history to the young kids :) Granted im only 19 but I love war history and such. I thought the movie was pretty cool too, cheesy but cool when I was younger.
As i recall the first release of this map into bf2 before EA decided to add it to an official release, it DID have 2 runways on it.

Wish they didn't remove it then. It would be awesome with two runways. Picture the crashes in the beginning of each round, both planes boosting agains each other. And kaboom, there goes both. And usmc can spawn two jets at the same time, so why cant PLA too?
As Drunken said the 2nd was for takeoff from the plane that spawned where the heli is now. In Bf42 the runways wernt concrete...they were both grass. In BF42 there was no island US spawn, u could enter all of the buildings and there were Def guns. In Bf42 u could move the carrier and there were AA emplacements on it as well as fore and aft main gun positions, and it could be sunk. Also u could man a frigate that could shell the main land (hence the def guns)
I thought the plane respawned on the end of the runway closer to the end of the island and not where the heli is now. I also thought 3 planes spawned. I' am probally wrong I havent played BF1942 in so long.
Landing on the chinese runway on wake is THE way to get your j10 blown up. The moment you land four AT guys and two tanks will materialise out of nowhere to capture the airfield and blow you up
I land it on the east side of the island, usually on the bridge with a supply crate to rearm/repair. Works miracles when you keep losing the airfield too
I always wondered what happened to that secondary runway, but I never fly in BF2, so never saw it from anything besides the ground. Thanks for pointing it out.
Yes it is a bit of nostalgia put in probably by th eprogrammers for themselves, but also for us oldies.
There are also a couple of crashed Zero looking aeroplanes, and some sunken landing craft, IIRC. Haven't played much Wake.
One thing I'd like to see, well 2 things, are the Midway and the Iwo Jima maps with BF2 :)
In single player the SBD took off there and the F4U took off the main one (reverse way as it is now) while in multiplayer the F4U, SBD and SBD-T took off all 3 around where J-10 is in BF2,
