Chinese Second Runway on Wake?

Okay, I never played Wake on BF1942. So don't make any rude remarks.

I noticed that there's something very odd about the grass around the chinese airfield base it was a different shade then the rest like there was an old runway there at one time.





So what do you guys think is there a second runway or is my imagination going wild.

yes, in 1942 it was a second runway, with the prop driven planes you could turn in time to make it down there. However the most you could do with the jets would be to land there, the J10 of F-18 can't turn down there with out being a sitting duck.

Ok, thanks, I was sort of guessing it was from BF1942, but I couldn't find anything about BF1942 Wake. Except that it's a very popular map.:laugh:

Yea, that was a second Runwayfor Wakein 1942, an SBD took off from there, it spawned at the location of the Z8's helipad.

If you look up wake island on google (yes, its a real island) you find an island with two runways. I guess the makers of the map was inspired by that, and as someone said somewhere in this thread, of the wake map in BF1942.

This is a real photo of wake island:



As you see, the longes runway runs all along the south side of the island. The runway that is in the game (hidden one) looks like a shortened version of the real one.

Excuse the ignorrence, But I didn't know They actually based the map closely after the real thing. Never bothered looking into it! They got it surprisingly close in terms of general island layout for me!

Please tell me that folks know that Wake Island was an important locale during the Pacific Theater of WWII....

Hehe, very few (besides the old BF1942 fans and me :p ) knows that its actually a real place.

The map is very similar to the same thing, besides the fact that the game map is much higher. The island is 100% flat in real life, but that would ruin the map as a game map. If it was completely flat, you would be able to see every part of the map at all times. Therefore the heightened the ground, making small (but steep) edges out to the sea.

According to the CIA world fact book, the highest point is:

"highest point: unnamed location 6 m"

Oh please don't get me wrong. Of course its a Real Island in real life, no friggen crap!

I just was surprised at the similarity between ingame and the true landmass form. They have the basic structure and layout perfectly. This really adds another dimension and sense of immersion into the gameplay now!

Yes the shape of the island looks 100 % like the bf2 map. It's quite impressive. One thing it lacks though, is the usmc artillery island. It might be on that white edge that surrounds the island, but im not able to find it on a map either.



Just saw the small confidential mark down in the bottom right corner of the map. Its not so confidential anymore, is it?

I wish BF1942 would get updated so that it had the bf2 features and grafics.
I never got the opportunity to play it. :cry:
