Would you tip a taxi driver?

I do. If they are quick and safe, then I have no problem giving them an extra buck or two. Some of you have probably never used a taxi before. You may have other people perform services for you that are worth a certain amount of money depnding on the quality like waiters and waitresses. The same principal applies.

So what does this have to do with BF2, you may be asking?

BF2 does not tip the taxi driver. They don't even pay the man. They jump out of the taxi, tuck & roll and take off sprinting the other way down the street and thats not very nice.

So what the hell has Phrag been smoking, you may be asking?

What I mean is there are vehicles that serve little or no other function except to transport infantry and provide a mobile spawn point. This is not a problem since these vehicles work very well at what they do and have started to help improve my win to loss ratio.

The problem is when I start a squad and jump in a transport chopper, for example, I play the round without scoring a kill or points of any kind. I don't mind that much since my team usually wins when we use this tactic but, sometimes you get into a server where people just don't get it and I end up with a loss and a 0 GP, 0 TP, 0 K, 1-3 D round.

IMO, some team point should be awarded to all the players that provide safe, fast and strategicly imperative transport to there fellow team mates. This may also have the additional benefit of cutting down on the camping of vehicle spawns through giving the drivers of multi-player vehicles an incentive to wait for other infanty to get in. It would denfinetly make more people use the APC as an Armored Personel Carrier and not just a tank repair station with a gun.

Anyway, thats my 2 cents. Gotta go try to find more players who will still set foot in a black hawk.

Sounds like a good idea but I can imagine stat padders flying the BH up into the clouds and getting something to eat in the meantime.

I don't understand. What you're saying already exists in the form of awards. And while you might not think that is as good as points, you have to realize that these awards are required for much higher up promotions. And as far as ego goes, people tend to appreciate badges over points becuase they're harder to earn.

Sounds like a really good idea, but this is battlefield, all good ideas have major problems. Mainly with transport people would use it if they knew they wouldnt die. From my experience of getting flamed after driving something with passengers that got blown up, the general theme seems to be that most people dont like the idea of one person getting kills for everyonre in the black hawk or apc whatever. eg a "plane whore" getting 6 kills for downing a blackhawk, of an AT guy getting 6 kills for firing at an apc.

As i said its a good idea, but as i said people dont want to die, or dont want one person getting a lot of kills, and the main reason.........most people think they could fly/drive better than the person currently doing so and just think "I aint getting in dat fing wi dat noob driving!!!"

i love being nothing but a taxi in a transport chopper.

people get so amazed when they die and see me comin back to the pad to pick up more peeps. they really appreciate it. I also look for squad leaders to pick up.

But i do it for the feeling, not for the points. There's just something about having a heli-full of people bail and take a flag and then watch them amazed as I actually land at the flag to pick them up again after they take it.

I absolutely love being the "taxi driver." In fact, transport is my top used vehicle  It's a fun way to force people into moving into tactical positions without yelling at them! I especially like to take the blackhawk with a full load to 300 ft and then have a HUGE helo drop down to take the flags. The other day I had 5 knife kills and 2 pistol kills by parachuting behind the enemy

Being a team player is a good thing Phag, but you gotta find some teamwork activities that give points, like repairing, resupplying, healing, flag work etc.

Do any of you remember the Transport plane in DC? Now thats what we need in BF2! A large fliying spawn point!

Re: Would you tip a taxi driver?

I threw in the "good" condition for a reason.

What if they made it so that if you are in a squad, driving a transport and with in 300 ft of a flag when it is neutralized or captured by a member of your squad, you get a flag neutralize/capture assist which is 1 point. Its not much but is better than nothing.

This would make stat padding difficult and encourage squad forming.

As for the award, I think the transport ones are a joke. You never have to have anyone in the transport to get them.

Be a squad leader flying a transport helicopter then.

Driver special ability points are what you get for carrying passengers.

Some people will always be like that.

I understand people not wanting to let someone get 6 kills in one shot but if you have a decent pilot and passengers that are paying attention, you should be all set. Of course if you are playing a map like wake and the enemy is dominating hte sky, you are screwed no matter what.

But those points are for healing, resupplying and repairing while driving, not for transporting. None of these points really help when you are a flying spawn point.

I'm going to try to drop down and pick the guys up again so I can get driver ability points, but that may be suicide. :dead:

Sweet! So far my idea is more popular than Bush or Clinton. Take that you stupid two party system!

Nope. I've been driving out in the middle of nowhere, with a sniper in my tank, and I've scored DSA points.

Also got them for carrying a sky cow full of AT guys to the backyard on Mash, too.

My question would be, how would you gaudge it?

Good transport is very subjective. It's easy for a human to say "Wow, he's a really good driver/pilot and gets me where I need to go!", but how do you teach the points system to recognize it?
