Auto Download For Custom Maps

Is there a way to let people download custom maps when they try and connect to a custom map server?

In most other games you can redirect them to an html address while the download, then the get connected back in afterwards. Is this not possible in BF2?

So really, custom map servers are never gonna take off Does anyone know if EA have any plans to add the ability to do this?

There used to be one on the old UT2004. Now, it was nice to have the map downloaded and saved, but most of the time it was "johnys bedroom" map. I mean, if johnny needs guys in his bedroom that bad, call an escort service. I could care less about bouncing around in some jerks bedroom.

I only have a 512Kb connection, so autodownloading the oversized BF2 maps would really tick me off, especially if it turned out to be complete crap!

I don't really remember custom maps doing too well if any of the BF series, total conversion mods on the other hand do.

I don't particularly get your logic guys. So you're saying, you see a server with a custom map, you'd rather not be able to get on it at all rather than connect and download that one map at ftp speeds to have a look around?

The other alternative is you find the map pack that has that map and download all of them... taking much, much longer...

If you're not interested at all, how would it be a bad thing that those that are interested can just double click it and have it installed on the fly rather than forcing them to come all the way out, search around for a download and probably having to download a 200 meg pack just to get on and have a look?

They have this in CoD2. But it downloads at like 2 kb/s so it was not really worth it. If they could implement a better download service, like through EA downloader or something, then it would be awesome.
