To O.p.
You are being a bit ignorant, perhaps you should just state things more clearly next time. But hey I saw a thread that was 2 days old with no replies, so I tried to figure out why. So I read the post, and understood why nobody answered you. My bad for trying to get to the bottom of it for you. Guess I should have let the thread rot where it was.
Anyway, yes lightmaps on final can take a very long time to generate, it depends entirely on how many objects you have in the map. Buildings and wall sections take a long time. Crates and barriers and stuff go pretty fast. Trees are fast as well.
Terrain lightmaps also takes a few hours depending on how large your map is. A 256 map has 4 sections and final terrain LM can finish in about 1.2 - 2 hours. 512 map has 8 squares (sections) and depending on how many objects are casting shadows on it can take a very long time. Lots of trees etc. lots of shadows to draw.
You downloaded the lightmaps file from EA right? If you didn't you might as well stop the process. It won't know how to generate the lightmaps for your objects if you don't have that file.
MOD Light Map Samples (710MB)
For those of you wanting to generate lightmaps for maps using the retail version of Battlefield 2 objects, you will need the LightmapSamples.zip file (provided here). Just unzip and read the ReadMe contained inside for placement instructions. Note: this file is 700MB in size and you do not need it for anything other than generating shadows on the retail version of Battlefield 2 objects. Even without this file, you will still get terrain shadows from all objects in your scene.
My map took 6 straight days on a Pentium 2.8 with 1 GB ram. It was taking so long on my gaming machine that I moved everything over to my old PC and just let it crank away day and night. 8600 minutes
Yikes ok. Well that is in fact what i will be doing. My wife will be mad that i am going to monopolize the second pc, but what has to be done has to be done. Im afraid if i add the EA light mods, it could take half a month to compile. Speaking of compile, any of you guys notice that you select COMPILE in the menu to get to generate lightmaps? If you ever mapped for older games you might have come across such a term... Anyway thanks for the heads up blizzard. I also noticed you aren't throwin out the gotfrag forums link anymore?
I too have this problem with no obvious cause. I have a 512x2 map with 441 objects. 2 days ago it rendered set to Primary and Final taking ONLY 80 minutes. Now all of a sudden (without making any changes!) it takes over 400,000 minutes on final and 460 minutes on LOW How can that happen? Bug??
I did notice 5 spawnpoints missing from 1 flag but apart from that my map hasn't changed.
I had to render again because a part of my road didn't look right. Also I had missing spawn points.
I found an ambient light on my map. I deleted it and it now renders in 60 minutes again.
