How do I find out what FPS I am running at?

While in-game bring up console, using '~' (which is left next to '1').
Type in:
renderer.drawfps 1
Press 'Enter'.
Press '~' again to close console.
It should be on the upper left side of your screen, is the number printed on the left.

hit the ~ key to bring down the console (its left of the 1 key) and type the following

renderer.drawfps 1

press Enter, hit ~ to close the console and you will see your FPS in the top left of the screen.

If you want to turn it off, type renderer.drawfps 0

Or you could use Fraps. It also take screen shots and in game video.

FRAPS show fps, record video game movies, screen capture software

I dont understand these things about FPS, can some one explain and tell me what the best number to have is?

Greater than 30fps and you should be fine.

A steady FPS is also a good thing to have. Or you will get lag spikes. Or at least I used too.
