BF2.exe-BF21.exe help

After reading the TotalBF2 optimization guide I changed my BF2 file name from BF2.exe to BF21.exe.

The game ran fine like this but my mouse (Logitech G5) presets weren't working. I realised that this is because the logitech software recognises BF2.exe rather than BF21.exe so I changed the filename in the logitech software.

However now the mouse presets only work sporadically or with a big delay (like 5 seconds) Is there any way around this or do I have to just change the file name back again?

Also if I can fix the prob and keep the BF21.exe file name are there any other things I need to redo e.g firewall, etc?

I am not sure why people do this, I have seen many people try it and get NO performance increase whatsoever.

I've changed it back now and guess what?

It Still doesn't work...

At the same time as I originally renamed the file I also made Bf2 high priority as is recommended in the same guide, could this be the cause of the problem?

did ya change the executable path for your logitech mouse software back to bf2.exe too?

Quite honestly it's a silly suggestion... but I admit... I've tried it. When you're having peformance problems, you're likely to fall for any possibility of a quick fix. The absolute truth, coming from someone that's replaced a TON of hardware for this very game, is that 9 times out of 10 it's a hardware issue. Changing the name of a file, registry hacks, special programs... hardly any of it is going to give a real world peformance increase.

The most you'll get out of these simple tweak "discoveries" is if you combine them all, and I mean like 20+ of them, you might actually get some peformance boost, and it'll mostly be due to a more snappy Windows run. In fact, you're OS environment is what will benefit the most from some of these tips and tricks, and thus the game will run slightly better.

The best thing to do is make sure Windows is running well, and if you can, run your games on another hard drive so they can access themselves at the same time. 2gb of ram will give the cheapest and most significant peformance boost. Thats the best hardware upgrade to do if you can only afford one. However, keep in mind that the best graphics and highest fps don't make for a better player. The odds are actually against the better graphics, because the effects affect view distance and hide the enemy in shadows. If you're not willing to spend hundreds of dollars on new hardware, I suggest you simply turn off some of the more taxing effects and enjoy the ability to own people like me who spend $3K building a computer that makes the game look ultra realistic but are too lost in the shadows and detail to be able to snipe a person in open view
