i just seen a knife thread get locked as i was typing out my piece on the knife....and it was a shame it had to be locked, as no one responded with anything real, making it a flame thread, or a nonsense thread...

i have been using the knife exclussivley for a few weeks now (karkand), and i must say....it has seriously improved my game...it has taught me alot about taking cover...everywhere, and paying careful mind over that sprint bar...it has also taught me ways to maneuver that allows me to avoid getting hit, so i can get close, a requirement that no other weapon has, and requires alot of skill......or luck...

i place in top three for my team on average, using knife only, i get about 15-20 kills per round, and am usually medic, so i get plenny of revives/heals...placing my score well into 40s'-50's....i have more knife kills than any other

i played last night with a gun, first time in a while, and boy....talk about a walk in the park...no need to get close, or in anyones face, or dodge as much, more relaxed, and easy

i recommend ppl use knife exclussivly for a while, then see how hard it really is to get a decent score with it....be prepared to take a hit on your kill/death ratio tho....then after a few days, or whatever...go back to using guns...big difference..

i also feel 'the hunt' is more exciting when armed only with a blade, the kills are more gratifying/rewarding, and when an opponent sees you wielding a knife on the aproach, they just may pull theirs out and duke it out with you.....which is always more fun (until some schlubb prone with the PKM takes you both out)..which is another thing....love the teamkills ppl get trying to kill me when im in a group of them...

Hmm, I understand your point, but I wouldn't reccomend going just knife, its not the same as going just pistol and then playing with a g36e, because those are both ranged weps and if you get good with pistol you will be very good with the E.

In general, knife is for humiliation kills and close, many times if you are close to a prone player on the other team even if hes firing at you, a quick switch to the knife and a left click is the way to go.

If you wanna improve your game then go play a few matches of Quake 3 or UT before you get into some BF to pump you up (especially CS DM as it's closer to BF's ground pounding gameplay). No need to gimp yourself with silly weapons to learn tactics when you can practice the finer points of any FPS in a good game of DM. You can practice your knife for a whole year and I can still kick your ass left and right after a few maps of Q3. It all boils down to reflexes and hand eye coordination which intense DM games are well known for contributing to:)

I've been doing knife and pistol runs on karkand aswell so I hear exactly what you're saying anyway, using my pistol/knife for CQB and then L96 when ive got some time to line up the shot (or just a quick hit and hope), really teaches you how to hit the deck and take proper aim when you are using a pistol aganst a PKM (with lots of cries of "hacker" when they die lol)

Word Word...I found just running around with the DAO for 100 hours (literally) helped my game considerably. Its much easier to use cover, get up close, and finish them off with whatever. We can yap all we want about this gun or that gun, but most of the time its the guy that has the element of suprise that is going to win the shootout....

A good tactic for karky is the hotel, if youre usmc run up the hills to left or right, right is easier, and sneak around the back, all the prone pkm bunnies are asking to be slotted

Personally I'm not so keen on the knife and can't be bothered to learn how to use it. Although I have seen a few players who seemed to be using the 'ninja' class. I saw a sniper take on a PKM'er on the.. er.. MEC tank base on mashtuur. The support guy was hiding behind the small house. The sniper ran straight past me, and just as the support guy came out of cover the sniper did a prone-jump, dodging a dozen bullets, and stabbed him in the face all in under a second.. I was well impressed

I have never really used the knife much but need it now for a few medals. Just made Lt so i can now just try to get my badge.

Just use the shotguns, you will learn how to use every possible scrap of cover and it will become second nature. Then when you switch back to an assault rifle you will still have all the same good habbits.

ugh i hate knifing..i cant seem to knife anyone..even the easy ones where their back is to me..i knife..somehow miss and then ill try again and miss and bounce off him and tehn he'll turn aruond and fire..but in cs im a pretty good knifer

Knifing in CS is so much easier, even though only a backstab kills instantly (in source, at least)

Yeah I am sympathetic to the pistol and knife cause. I recently decided to crack down and get that knife badge so I could get my rank correctly. Once playing with a knife and also the pistol to get that badge, I started noticing a difference in my play with normal weaps. I have gotten two gold stars in a week and hadnt got one in months before hand.

Also I have practiced with all weaps on single shot and that makes a big difference too.
