        Re: Biggest file-sharing host?

I'm not quite sure where it could be uploaded (I'll have a look around) but in the meantime, I am curious about a few things:

        1. This video we're discussing ... is it a BF2 movie?
        2. What's the duration of the video?
        3. Does your friend want to upload it for random strangers to download?

Regarding the third of those questions, what I mean is ... does your friend want to upload it purely so that some person / people he knows personally can access the file or is he hoping that the general public will download the file and provide feedback?

You would probably be better useing bittorrent for a file that size, not only will it be faster but well it will be much faster then finding a site that will allow you to upload 2.3GB of file.

            A1: Yes, it's a BF2 movie.
A2: Dont know about the duration but it's frikkin' long and with med/high quality.
A3: I believe he wouldn't mind either, not sure. I think it's all about his 'career' through BF2, all the patches, and his changes from being predominately a chopper guy to plane to tank to infantry to specific class et c.

It might all be crap... but the concept sounds nice:) I also wonder which os the best way to share large files via a host.

Sounds interesting, I agree. Perhaps his best bet would be to use the BitTorrent protocol and enlist a few people to help in the seeding of the project.

A video of that size would dissuade a lot of people from downloading, though. I've seen people on forums kick up a fuss when asked to download something over 50MB.

Breaking it up into smaller segments would definitely help and people could then decide, based on their initial impressions, just how much of the project they wish to acquire.

you can split the movie into parts zipping it with winrar or filesplitter (i think) something similar it would be easier to download that way but you would have to find a good host for it, (ie not Rapidshare)

At that size i would expect it to be around 2 hours of highquailty video.

No one is going to download a movie that big unless its the best Bf2 video ever created (by a long way), and even then you wont get many Downloads.

get him to run it through Windows Movie Maker to lower it - a quarter of that amount would still be pushing it

2.3 GB is way too damn much for a modern video size.

Using any of the current generation MPEG-4 codecs at the NTSC standard, you can get about 45 minutes of video into about 350MB. if you bump it up in resolution to 800X600 or something even higher, you're going to get dramatically higher file size.

Definately have your buddy recompress it, because that file size is ridiculous, unless the video is several hours long.

And if it IS several hours long, there had better be a serious plot to it.

Watching someone else play a game gets incredibly boring after about a minute, unless he's doing something extraordinary.

I bet you he messed up the compression
