I played the demo and loved it so I bought BF2 & BF2: Spec Ops together. But I'm already being forced to regret it!
Installation took forever, then the patch included with Spec Ops stood still for 15 minutes just saying it was 'patching' and eventually I just ctrl-alt-del-eted it and ran the install for Spec Ops again. This time the patch was done in 5 minutes. Meanwhile I registered both games with EA, downloaded the 370mb patch and ran that after.
I started up BF2: Spec Ops and reclaimed my demo account name etc, then hopped into the multiplayer window after setting up my controls (joystick here). I couldn't find the servers I KNEW should've been listed (GameArena, here in Australia, has at least a half dozen servers) so I refreshed the list... tried to join one...
...and it crashed me to the fricking desktop!
So I started up the game again... and now every time I'm at the login screen, I hit log in and it just leaves me with a "Connecting to Authentication Server" (or something) message for ages on end and does NOTHING whatsoever!
@_@
The most frustrating thing is it doesn't let me cancel this, or alt-tab, or ctrl-alt-del to quit it - I have to RESTART my PC just to try again! The mouse moves around well enough so it doesn't seem to be a complete hang up, the BF2 window just insists on being in front of the other windows... what's the problem?
Why can't I log in? I bought the damn thing, I hardly ever buy games, but every time I buy them I get screwed over somehow (like Oblivion running like crap even on a system past all the recommended requirements, requiring you to run it at low end everything despite that not being what it defaults, etc).
I checked my modem settings... I turned NAT off and half bridge mode is switched so my IP address is out in the open and I'm totally vulnerable to hackers, no ports need forwarding because of it and the damn thing DID CONNECT BEFORE... what made it change it's mind?
WHY MUST ALL BOUGHT PRODUCTS MAKE ME SUFFER??
:wall:
I've been googling for answers to this the past couple of hours. All I saw was that it did happen a while ago when their authentication servers went down but the only way I can know that would be if people in the forums were talking about it - and noone else here seems to be having the issue I am.
Edit: Bleh. It eventually let me back in, another restart or two later, when I started it up through GameArena instead and then logged in. I don't understand what the problem is. Now it's optimizing shaders, which I've had happen before when I changed video settings, but instead it's now been sitting on 62% optimizing geometries for something like 15 minutes.
Several times now, I tried even to make single player games, and it just gets stuck optimizing at various stages and doesn't get anywhere. I accidentally clicked Play Now once and instead of actually DOING something, it froze up again (cursor could move) and did nothing... no progress.. and after falling asleep a couple of times waiting I had to ctrl-alt-delete it because I couldn't cancel it any other way. What the hell?
This is so buggy. And so clumsy, when I launch the game it has to launch and then relaunch before I can get into a multiplayer match? I just want to play, for heaven's sake.
