    Command Authorised Vehicle use

    K, before I get into this idea, I wanna make a couple quick notes;
I expect this to be unpopular for some folks. I'm not suggesting that it should be implemented. It's only an idea that I'm tossing out there for people to chew over, not to freak out about. It ain't gonna bite ya, so feel free to disagree/point out flaws, but save the flames (unless they're really entertaining and witty ones. Those are always amusing).

    So here's the thought:

Vehicles would be initially grouped into 3 catagories. General Use, Authorized Only, and Squad Assigned. The commander could move any class of vehicle to any other.

General Use: Any player can hop in and use it. No change from the current system.

Authorised Only: Attempting to get in the vehicle automaticly sends an authorisation request to the commander. If he accepts, they can use it, if not... well, they can't.

Squad assigned: Commander chooses a particular squad to have free access to the the vehicle. Others attempting to get in have to get authorisation as above.

The reason for the idea: To cut down on vehicle camping and TKing for 'em. Since it's out of the players hands as to who get's 'em, they have no reason to shoot eachother over 'em. This also would help promote things like dedicated Plane squads since the commander could assign all aircraft to a particular squad and just let 'em do their thing.

If there's no commander on the team, everything reverts to general OR could be left in it's default state and thus give some extra insentive for teams to have commanders.

    That's it.
What kind of impact do you think something like this would have on gameplay? Would it help out or just become another pain in the arse?

Edit: A better (I think) thought came up.
Maybe an optional system would be to simply hard-code squads and authorisation. There'd be several dedicated squads pre-set for different vehicle types. You can only get into the vehicles if you are a memeber of that squad. Fix the number of slots in each squad to the number of slots avalible in the vehicles.

So basicly you'd get a plane squad, armour squad, and chopper squad. If you wanna use those vehicles, join those squads.

Every single clan server out there would have one guy commanding and the rest of the clan in a squad that gets every good vehicle, and noone else would be able to touch them.

    This would never work.

Maybe in a perfect world, though.

I'd rather see a time cap.

Like players can only get 10 mins in a plane, 10 mins in a tank/apc/mobile AA , 10 in attack chopper, 20 in transports/chopper, unlimited in small jeeps/buggies.

      Look as nice idea.

But in pro vs con, I can already tell you one major con: It could be in some way used to reserve the vehicule for the team member of the server in a legitimate (cought) way.

On the other hand, I love the thing to have a dedicated chopper squad, aircraft one, or tank and APC squad. If all of these work together to win the battlefield, it could be awesome.

Yeah, the thought did occur to me. I'm not sure it's a show stopper tho. Clans that like to abuse the system are already kicking people for taking "their" vehicles, so it would only mitigate the number of unfair kicks, really.

Not a bad idea... but it's got a flaw too. What happens when your pilots run outta time and no-one else can/wants to fly? Presumably, you lose. :p

As metioned above, I did think about that a bit. It's very hard to program a computer to counter people's arse-a-holic tendancies.

        Hmm. That's not bad.
Would take the abuse factor out.

either raise the spawn time of vehicles to 5 minutes or lower it to 10 seconds...

if you raise it ppl will have to wait longer and get bored

if you lower it then ppl can't spawn and get it in time

Like the other guys said... In a perfect world, yes, this would work very well in BF2. But in a normal server I think it would be an annoying pain in the @rse!

I only go commander in a vehicle when I need to (Like im at Southbase at wake island and they take the beach) and there is 2 cars. I take one and cap our flag back and leave one for them.

Yeah... I'm thinking refined suggestion number 2 is better. I'm gonna edit my first post to include it.

What a terrible idea this would be for pub servers... Some freaking cheating noob kid would snag commander and then assign stuff only to his buddies, then us who are good in tanks would not get a chance to use it... you cant trust anyone in PUBLIC servers.

Do note that I said "Squad Authorised", not "Player Authorised". This means that as long as there's room in the squad, you could still join it and get access to the vehicle in question.

Try to look beyond the obvious a little.

And if they lock the squad?

                        :p
                        Um.
Unlockable squads would prolly have to be an additional tweak. Atleast for any squad that's been granted authorisation.

Actually, the more I'm thinkin about it, the more I like the optional idea that came up and doesn't involve the commander at all. Hard coded, vehicle specific squads would prolly work out better in general.

sounds like a great idea, but would prob just get in the way. i would rather like to see no FF were jets/heli spawn ect or maybe prority like 15 sec after an APC spawns a SL can kick so random guy out so the SL can use the APC for its real use

I would have no time to sit and go thru the applications.

The first thing I probably will do is reject any snipers who wish to use the jet.

Let's fix the current issues in the game first before taking on these new ideas.

And seriously, I think public servers will fail completely when the system breaks down.

Great concept, but an extremely hard one to implement whilst keeping things fair for everyone.

I could see the advantages and logic behind such a system (major improvements in overall gaming experience if moderated correctly), but the potential for problems, abuse and bad management far exceed the benefits; it wouldn't take much to ruin a match with a bum commander who doesn't give due authorization, people waiting around for armor while a battle for a flag cap rages on a kilometer away, etc.

I don't know, certainly worth the discussion and brain storming!
